Saw on the Frontiers Twitter post the subject item is being released. Not sure in what format it did not say.
Hoping for audio. Anyone else hear of this?

Man, would I love a high quality physical release of this.

This was confirmed a while ago. I believe Neal said release date is May. In hindsight, given that JTT resulted in lawsuits and the dismissal of Smitty/Ross, I would prefer it stay buried.

This is something that I will definitely buy, this release is probably the only place where I'll hear of the some of the older stuff live.

As much as Schon has derailed current JRNY, he got it right with JTT, so credit where credit is due. This is more JRNY than JRNY, so hopefully there will be a Bluray release.

Isn’t anyone excited about this? If it’s the 2018 show, it was quite a setlist and performance.
Probably the most exciting Journey related release in over a decade.

Bluray as well? JTT is a lot more exciting than JRNY themselves and I wish Schon would reinitiate the project.

The last time he "initiated" this Journey spin-off it resulted in lawsuits and the forced exit of their most famous rhythm section (Ross/Smith).

Nothing to celebrate. Really sad actually.

I doubt very much he is going to do that because he can't use the Journey trademark to promote the band...it won't go anywhere without attaching it closely to Journey. Even a release like this is barely going to sell anything...I'm somewhat surprised that Nightmare has allowed the release. You are also assuming that Marco would still be interested after being fired from Journey...and Gregg would still do it after witnessing all the BS that Neal has put Journey through.

Neal should just start "The Neal Schon Band" and use that banner to perform ALL of his past music, Journey, BE, Santana, and solo. He can hire and fire whoever he wants that way. If he is so confident in being the founder and leader of Journey, member of the RnR HOF, member of Santana, and all the rest of his accomplishments, he should have no problem doing this and not closely tie himself to ANY band.

Issue is The Neal Schon Band wouldn’t draw enough of a crowd for it to be worth it for him to go that route. If he went that way he’s playing in front of a max of 2000 people and not bringing in the cash it’ll take to keep the Mrs happy.

Neal Schon can tour as "The Neal Schon Band featuring the founding member of Journey!" That is the title. And the idiot casual fans will think Steve Perry will be at every concert because they think Steve Perry founded Journey. So, he will play to 50,000 seat stadiums packed with fans. He could be so rich.

And, that is my point. In the Austin concert, Gregg said something like, "Without you (the fans), this place would be empty." Without the rest of members of Journey past and present, and Herbie, Neal Schon would be solo playing bars to 20 people. But, he doesn't act like that...he acts like he is responsible for everybody's success, and his own. If Neal REALLY believes his own hype he could do what I describe above. But, he won't because he knows he is just talking shit.

He would get sued by Nightmare because it says "Journey". There would need to be a legal agreement for him to do something like that. Nightmare probably signed something for JTT to release an album...probably before the Trademark complaint, I would guess.

Maybe the release of the JTT disc is part of the settlement. Revenue goes to Nightmare?

That could be. I doubt there is going to be much revenue. I can't imagine this will sell more than 10,000 copies, and that is being generous.

I think this was all part of a package deal with Frontiers when they agreed to release Freedom (JTT, Lollapalooza etc).

I don't think they had a choice other than Frontiers for JTT as Frontiers owns Deen. I think they carved out a deal to allow him to tour with Journey and Freedom to come out on BMG in the states. Sorta of like they did with Dino for Whitesnake.

As far as JTT, Soul Sirkus, and The Neal Schon band they just don't draw. All of them could be built up over time, but Neal isn't gonna go back to travelling in a van to make it financially viable. Neal was hemorrhaging money just to keep these tours going.

Even if the band desired one, a bidding war between labels for this small release was NOT happening.
Again, it was probably negotiated as part of the Freedom release.

What about his time on the road or in the studio with Dead Daisies? That album wasn't Frontiers.

I did think it was odd that Frontiers handled Generation Radio, so he maybe he is owned by them.

Based on legal docs and past/recent actions (selling guitars, pay per view wedding, using the band's card for bling), he's hemorrhaging money now too.

I doubt any of these could be built up over time. They are all nostalgic 80's sounding bands. I doubt any of them would ever sell more than 5,000 seats, and be an opening band and never headline.. The only exception may be Planet US, and that is only because of the inclusion of Sammy Hagar. If they went on tour and did Van Halen and Hagar solo songs, along with a new album, maybe they could eventually be a big band..at least as big as Chickenfoot. Neal Schon is not Eddie Van Halen, or Sammy Hagar, who could easily draw a crowd by his name only. That has been my point.

It would be nice to know the details of the BMG and Frontiers deal. BMG did NOTHING to promote the album. Frontiers did little besides announce the release. And, again, Journey sued Frontiers which was never picked up and covered by anybody....don't know what that was about. Whatever deal they got must have really sucked and relied on the band to promote themselves. The Lalalapaloozala release is worthless, IMO...and the JTT release is only slightly more interesting. Not sure what leverage either the band or Frontiers would have with that..."we will not sign with you unless you release..." or "if you sign with us, we will release...." Or, maybe they signed a three album deal with Frontiers and this is Journey or Frontiers way of meeting that contract.

Not sure what we are celebrating here....

Marco's playing was later criticized by Neal and led to his dismissal from official Journey. Why would I buy a DVD with a bassist who allegedly sucks (according to Neal)? This spin-off band also resulted in the firing of Ross & Smith, after they sided with the rest of the Nightmare board - including Perry and Herbie - to stop Neal from trademarking JTT merchandise. I see this and I just see a very dark troubled chapter of the band.

1). That was after the Lollapoolaza show regarding Marco.
2). The show sounds great and we get to hear a unique setlist sung by DeenO and Rolie.
3). Some of us give none shits about Smith and Valory.
4). The drama off stage doesn’t impact the performance on stage.

Wrong.

Neal said he realized Marco wasn't a good fit while mixing the IHeartShow.
But let's pretend you're correct, we are expected to believe that Marco's playing suddenly changed from JTT to Lollapalooza? Makes ZERO sense.

And even if it did, was it necessary to publicly diss the guy's playing? Low class.

Eric wrote:2). The show sounds great and we get to hear a unique setlist sung by DeenO and Rolie.

Trial By Fire sounds great too. Doesn't mean I celebrate it or promote it. In fact, many fans on here would point out how it was an attempt by Perry to kill the Chalfant lineup in its tracks and to further stall/kill the band with the "hip excuse." Shady bullshit like that gets called out - not celebrated.

Eric wrote:

Based on your posts, you would enthusiastically support a "Journey" lineup of Neal, Teddy Swims, and Lady M on maracas.

Eric wrote:4). The drama off stage doesn’t impact the performance on stage.

Again, the whole JTT tour was a shot across the bow by Neal to Journey Official / Nightmare to see what he could get away with. When they (rightfully) tried to reign him in, he fired the rhythm section. Now he's after the keyboardist and sometimes Arnel. Anyone who supports this mess has no shame.

I think this is a really bad move on Schon's part. The video of 'Lights' looks like the youtubes that were released after the show. Dark, bad angles, jumpy, etc. Sounds pretty good though from the video posted- but bluray quality? Eh... I dunno. The Lollapalooza bluray was slammed quite a bit due to its lack of quality. I can't believe this will fare any better. I absolutely get the Greg love, but the whole thing just reeks of Schon's ego to me. Imagine if Perry had done this with the FTLOSM band and called it "Perry's Traces of a Journey to Strange Medicine" or some ridiculous name. Neal would've lost his damned mind. I remember HH saying after Schon did his solo thing with Jan Hammer, that Neal would probably regret doing that because now it opened the door (see what I did there?) for Perry. I think all this will do is create more bad blood in Journey, piss off the AP fans who've no doubt been watching so much of Schon's stuff unfolding on Twitter, etc., but have supported Journey with him. Without AP/Cain, I think Journey will be dead (and yeah, Jon has ticked me off quite a bit, but you cannot deny their formula). I can't imagine what it'd be like to be surrounded by that kind of ego and try to go forward like nothing's happening. Neal is Journey's guitarist. He is not the voice of Journey. He is not the lyricist of Journey. Right now, he's the pain in the ass of Journey.
Been a fan since I got tickets to the Evolution tour. Bought everything since. Supported each lineup change. I won't touch this. Hope he knows what he's doing.

I agree that this was more about Neal's ego than anything else. Not gonna complain about hearing Rolie's contributions though. But everything else is just meh. The video quality is horrendous. Deen does his normal routine of killing it and sounds great, but there's just no life to the overall performances at all. Doubtful I'd waste my money buying it.

It was Neal trying to have complete control over a "Journey band." That is why Nightmare complained and stopped them...and why Neal got pissed and sued them and Smith/Valory...and the whole thing could be why Neal is on this power thing about being Journey God. He's not...no matter how much he claims he is.
