Looks like they’ve buried the hatchet. Love to see it.

Nice to see!

As for the F1 performance itself.........uh, Arnel was not live at all. What's going on here? Clearly playback.

If not live at least they used a great live recording. I doubt anyone was live to eliminate any possibility of technical difficulties. Keith Urban's performance was a full band musically and he was the only one on stage.

Yeah, the first thing I noticed. Kind of an odd stage setup, even with all the production. A ton of exposure on social media and cable.

Televised performances like that are actually almost never really live. Not saying it’s right, but it is what it is

You can say that, but that doesn't make it true. In fact, nearly all of Journey's TV appearances since reforming in 1998 have been live and raw.

Augeri era CBS early morning show.
City of Hope on NBC today.
DSB on Dick Clark TV New Year's Eve.
It goes on and on and on.

Oh sure, you can find footage from the past with bands doing playback on some foreign TV station. But that doesn't make it the norm at all.

Which begs the question...... what's going on here?

This might be the first time Journey specifically has done it, and please note I never suggested Journey did it in previous appearances. In fact it has been so long since I saw a Journey TV appearance that I don’t even remember them. But across the board, more often than not, when musicians perform on live TV, there’s usually some fuckery going on with prerecorded tracks. It’s the nature of the gig and the business.

As one example, aren't all super bowl half time performances recorded prior to the "big game" so there are no audio issues, etc? (Although many of them undoubtedly lip as a normal practice). This was likely a similar situation. It looks like Keith Urban is doing a couple of Vegas shows while he's there, so surely he would have had his band there instead of using a full band backing track if there was an opportunity to play (really) live.

There has been enough negative to criticize Journey about the last few years without making an issue of something that seems as simple as this.

As I alluded to early, the whole thing was just odd. Putting performers on a building that made them look like ants performing up there, and the audience basically had to watch the big screens to see them. And yes, while it is common place that tv shows are using tracks, it's just a big turn off for me and I'd rather not even watch it.

I also heard they had to end the event early because the streets they were using for the race were not properly prepared or ready.

I’d like to see them hanging out and getting along somewhere that is not for an appearance, concert, or recording session before saying they buried the hatchet.
