"Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" was played at the band's Seattle show on Wednesday. Link below. I recall Arnel doing this in the early years when he joined. While it was a good effort, the years are starting to take their toll. Pitch is all over the place and at 1:22, you can distinctly hear auto-tune or pro-tools type sound. Discuss.

Rough one. I had to stop it at 30 seconds. I appreciate Arnel wanting to sing this for the fans, as it was never performed with Perry.
Perry put all of his blood, sweat and tears into that recording. His performance was at another level. I don't know how he would have handled it live.
It's a song I wish would have been left alone, to be honest.

For my money, that's the best ballad Journey ever did and Perry's performance on ROR is monumental.
I am not even going to bother listening to Arnel do it.

He's battling and his heart and soul are still solidly present in this clip. It's a million times better than all of these tribute/cover clips that many on here seem to adore.
The best its ever been done live... and ever will be:

10 or 15 years ago Arnel would have nailed it, probably a full song performance.

Not sure if that warbly sound is auto-tune or just some type of vocal affect he is using. It happened earlier in the song too, just not as noticible.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Hopefully somebody with more tech expertise weighs in.

Wow! That really is a great performance. And Neal is still playing for the song instead of the ego!

He hits one REALLY harsh note but I thought the rest was ok. My big problem is his choice of phrasing. Also, I sorta feel like Arnel has entered his Frontiers voice era. A little lower, maybe a little warmer timbre.

This shows what a monumental singer Perry once was.

Wow, I enjoyed that. And the original performance from Arnel was really cool too.

Perry's performance on ROR, and on WCTNGOF in particular, is absolutely stunning and monumental. The tone, the dynamics, the overall delivery is just brilliant.

I had seen it before, but I watched it a few times after you posted. Just phenomenal. I hope JH sees this and is well!

JH does it better than Arnel even when Arnel was in peak condition. JH's tone is just closer to Perry.

I wouldn't mind at all hearing Deeno take a stab at this someday. It'll probably never happen, but history has shown he was their go-to guy for deep cuts from ROR for years and he does a damn fine job doing them as well!

Ditto. Was just coming on to post the exact same thing. I would like to hear his version too. I recall posting about my all time favorite song being Still They Ride and saying I never hear of that being played, probably as Perry’s vocal tone is just magic on that one. Somebody on here posted a clip of Deen singing STR. Blew me away, it was really good! Can’t seem to find it now.

Yup, I know theres a clip or two of him singing Still They Ride with Journey proper, but the version I usually repeat a few times when listening to it is on the Journey Through Time album. Dude NAILS that song!

Found it. Love this version. The reason it’s my favorite song is Perry’s inflections/tone and the way he would elongate a word. Especially in the chorus. I’ve never heard a version of STR come close. But Deen’s comes very close (all while multi-tasking behind the kit). I was VERY impressed. Lol and that is saying a lot, the bar for me is set very high on that song.
