The problem is there is no reason to buy CD's any longer. All of these songs can be listened to for free on Spotify.

What I wish is that Sony and/or Journey, would have released something truly epic for the anniversary...a true comprehensive box set, like Pink Floyd did years ago. Sony could have included all of the Columbia era studio albums along with all of the partially finished unreleased songs, and a true live representation of the band from the 70's, or a complete Departure concert. Maybe included the Robyn Flans book, a photo book including rare or never seen photos. Maybe new companion interviews with Perry/Schon/Cain/Rollie for Infinity through Trial By Fire. It would have cost a true fortune, but I would have paid for it.

And, Journey could have timed a box set of the post reunion albums...with some of the same type of ideas. And, I would have bought that, too.

I'm guessing $300 for each, at least...probably closer to $500 for the Sony one.

But, redoing prior releases with already available songs, meh, I just don't care.

Anything even remotely close to a release like this and they could have even named almost any price and I would have been all in as well.
Rock on,

I am NOT saying this should be released today. I am just having fun. This is what should have been released, Volume 1 in 1988 and Volume 2 in 1990. Let me try this one last time. Just for fun.

Journey Greatest Hits Volume 1
1. Only the Young - the two soundtrack hits should be spread out between the two albums.
2. Don't Stop Believin'
3. Faithfully
4. Wheel in the Sky
5. I'll Be Alright Without You
6. When You Love a Woman - this shouldn't be the last track.
7. When You're Alone It Ain't Easy - They played this on radio all the time back in the 1980's.
8. Who's Cryin' Now
9. Feeling That Way - This deserves to be on volume one.
10. Anytime - This deserves to be on volume one.
11. Open Arms
12. Be Good to Yourself
13. Lights/Stay Awhile (Captured) - this live version is so good.
14. Separate Ways
15. Stone in Love - This deserves to be on volume one.
16. Any Way You Want It

Journey Greatest Hits Volume 2
1. Ask the Lonely - the two soundtrack hits should be spread out between the two albums.
2. Chain Reaction
3. Escape
4. Lovin Touchin Squeezin - Had to be put on Volume 2 because City of the Angels must follow.
5. City of the Angels - When rock radio was cool, they played this right after LTS.
6. Send Her My Love - Too many ballads on volume 1. Had to move this to volume 2.
7. Message of Love - Had to include something that rocks from Trial by Fire.
8. Just the Same Way
9. Girl Can't Help It
10. After the Fall
11. Walks Like a Lady
12. If He Should Break Your Heart
13. Patiently
14. Where Were You - this was all over the radio in 1980.
15. Keep On Runnin' - this was all over the radio in the early 1980's.
16. Dixie Highway (Captured) - this is the perfect way to end it.

Journey Greatest Hits Volume 1
1. Only the Young - the two soundtrack hits should be spread out between the two albums.[/quote]

OK, I disagree...both should be on Vol 1. Splitting them up seems odd and gimmicky to get you to buy both CD's.

2. Don't Stop Believin'
3. Faithfully
4. Wheel in the Sky
5. I'll Be Alright Without You

Obvious choices for Vol 1.

6. When You Love a Woman - this shouldn't be the last track.

Last track because it is the last true hit with Perry. Makes sense to me.

7. When You're Alone It Ain't Easy - They played this on radio all the time back in the 1980's.

Are you sure? This is a big Journey town and I never heard it on the radio. Has anybody else?
Regardless, this is not an anthology...it was never a hit so should not be here...

8. Who's Cryin' Now

Obvious.

9. Feeling That Way - This deserves to be on volume one.
10. Anytime - This deserves to be on volume one. {/quote]

I disagree. These are obvious choices for Vol2.

11. Open Arms
12. Be Good to Yourself

Obvious...But, I could live with "Be Good To Yourself" on Vol 2. Just not my favorite song. I would move it to whatever CD has fewer songs.

13. Lights/Stay Awhile (Captured) - this live version is so good.

Yes, it is good. And, I heard it on the radio many, many times in the '80s. But, it's not a hit and does not belong...I would have it, or a different version than Captured, on GHLive. Lights should be here from the album.

14. Separate Ways
15. Stone in Love - This deserves to be on volume one.
16. Any Way You Want It

I can agree with that...Stone In Love is good choice for Vol 1. Again, can be moved depending if one CD needs more songs.

Journey Greatest Hits Volume 2
1. Ask the Lonely - the two soundtrack hits should be spread out between the two albums.

Already disagreed.

2. Chain Reaction

Obvious choice for Vol2

3. Escape

Not a hit, should not be here.

4. Lovin Touchin Squeezin - Had to be put on Volume 2 because City of the Angels must follow.
5. City of the Angels - When rock radio was cool, they played this right after LTS.

The GH CD is what changed this...I *ALWAYS* heard them together up through the mid 1990s. After the rereleases for the TBF reunion I hardly ever heard them together again. I would rather the two be on Vol1.

6. Send Her My Love - Too many ballads on volume 1. Had to move this to volume 2.

I can live with that change. Doesn't matter much to me.

7. Message of Love - Had to include something that rocks from Trial by Fire.

I can agree with that.

8. Just the Same Way
9. Girl Can't Help It
10. After the Fall
11. Walks Like a Lady

Agreed for Vol2.

12. If He Should Break Your Heart

Released as a single but far from a hit. No need for it, IMO. Maybe a Japanese bonus track :)

13. Patiently
14. Where Were You - this was all over the radio in 1980.
15. Keep On Runnin' - this was all over the radio in the early 1980's.

None of these were hits...It seems I remember "Keep On Runnin" on the radio when Escape was out. I do not remember "Where Were You" on the radio AT ALL. Regardless, not hits, should not be here.

16. Dixie Highway (Captured) - this is the perfect way to end it.

I heard this on the radio once in a while, too. Along with LTS, and Feeling That Way/Anytime from Captured. I don't think it was a hit, should not be here.

The perfect way to end Vol2 is with "The Party's Over"

I also think "Higher Place" should be on Vol2...or another Japan bonus song. Probably not technically a 'hit', but was the better single and probably hit the charts somewhere but I don't feel like looking it up. The Arnel years would not be on a Sony release but Arrival was still on Sony.

Random "nice to have" songs should not be on a GH release. They belong on Anthology type releases that go beyond just hits or complilations like "The Ballade" that are not limited by "hits".
