Neal and Narada posted about being in the studio a couple days ago. Anybody know if this is Journey related or just some Neal solo tracks?

Hopefully they are working on either new Journey songs, or new Schon solo songs. Schon is overdue for a new solo album!

It was referred to as another project. Doubt it’s Journey related.

The social media post does include hash tags for #journey and #beyond. Recently, Neal posted a logo or graphic about something called, "Journey Beyond" - so make of this what you will.

Not working for me. I'm assuming it's a Neal link and I'm blocked. Care to provide any actual context / info?

Its a fast montage of pics featuring Neal and his wife mostly with a few concert pics in the mix accompanied by a hip hop beat. :?

It did say "new music coming - studio week" in the caption.

Sorry for not describing guys. What I found noteworthy:

- Said "New Music"
- Showed Arnel multiple times, including holding a guitar... maybe backstage?
- Showed some live highlights
- Showed the 50th logo
- I saw JRNY flash

Not Hip-Hop but more of a world beat sound in the background.

I don't see it posted on Twitter. I'm not on Instagram.

Probably not post-worthy except I saw the thread existed about new music coming.

Yeah, world beat is more accurate.

First, it's only 5 seconds long.

In addition,
also shows what appears to be maybe Arnel's wife?
It is mostly concert still shots...Arnel is all gray haired so probably from the last 2 tours.
The "JRNY" is some type of sign in a room that has stained glass in the back...i thought it was equipment, but I don't know after looking again.
I would call the music more Techno...like something from a Tron soundtrack...no guitar, synth drums, synth keys, etc...

Not exactly something that should "wow!" anybody, IMO.

Journey needs to get another deal with Wal-Mart when they put out a double CD. One CD of new music and the other CD could be "Raised On Radio 2026" which features Girl Can't Help It, Message Of Love, One More, When You Love A Woman, Suzanne, Be Good To Yourself, Raised On Radio, I'll Be Alright Without You, Can't Tame The Lion, I Can See It In Your Eyes, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever. That could make Raised On Radio on par with Escape and Frontiers.

That ship has long sailed. Walmart doesn't do those deals anymore - with any classic rock band. Target still does exclusives.

Also, Walmart ended up getting burned with Eclipse. You can still find copies at Walmart.

The other problem with this is they are all Sony era songs. Therefore, either Sony would have to release this...and I doubt Sony is going to sign Journey to a release. Or, whatever Journey LLC, Nightmare, or Neal would have to buy whatever rights they need to release those songs. And, I am sure Steve Perry would have to give permission to release them. Or, they would need to rerecord them. These are probably the exact reasons the rerecords exist for Revelation.

Journey would also not have an easy time getting a label to release anything. Their last two releases did not make the label anything at all. What are the total sales for Freedom? So, they would have to do it on their own...and I doubt that they would do it at this point.

I still think Jonathan should leave the band and Nightmare should sign a deal with Neal that he can continue on as "Journey Featuring Neal Schon" but not as Journey. And, let him do whatever he wants. Let everything come to an end in that way.

I thought the rerecorded tracks for Revelation were the way Walmart would sign on to that deal but I could be wrong. At this point I feel like they would be better off releasing new songs rather than a full length album. They also need to get in a studio together too, the remote setup is partly why Freedom sounded so bad.

IMO it almost feels like all the effort for future releases should probably focus on Sony Legacy recordings at this point. I think Perry is the only one with enough pull to make Sony take notice and get either a couple releases like an '86 or '83 full video concert release or a more comprehensive video boxed set. Unreleased demos and whatnot won't probably see the light of day if they haven't shown up already with all the remasters we've had.

Its all a moot point likely anyway though since Sony doesn't really have any financial reasons to dig into their archive for us remaining hardcore fans, and Perry is off doing his own stuff again now so his motivation is probably not all that great. I assume that even though he has a new record deal with Dark Horse he still might have some kind of limited Legacy contract with Sony to touch up the big Journey albums for remasters every so often but that might not even be the case anymore.

Ultimately this whole post is probably meaningless.

The OTHER other problem is that half of the songs are from Trial By Fire.

That may be true. I guess my point is that the band can't just go and release Sony era compilations on their own. It reminds me of Styx and their remastered Greatest Hits album. They could not release Lady because the rights were held by a different label. So, they rerecorded it Tommy Shaw as Lady '95. The original had John Curulewski and no Tommy Shaw.

Releasing old video is even more problematic because they need permission from everybody who is involved in the performance and shown in the video. You can't just release video without the permission of the people being shown...they have the right to control the use of their own images. So, you would need Steve Perry, Steve Smith, Ross Valory, Gregg Rolie, etc....all to agree to it. Getting Perry to sign off on anything like this has always been difficult...according to Neal. Since Neal has become Sir Sue-a-lot, Smith, Valory, and Gregg may be a bit difficult as well.

Yeah correct on all counts, but I would hope that the lure of a little bit of extra money without any effort would sweeten the deal enough for most of the guys to be ok with a release like that, but with the temperature of the relationships after the "coup" and then Neal pissing Gregg off by selling the JTT show might make that era impossible. Perry obviously doesn't need the money so it goes back to motivation with him and I ain't seeing it so that pretty much shoots down everything altogether.

OK, reality bites so back to dreaming!
