I wonder what we can expect from the next Journey album?

Do you think the guys will play it SAFE again or will they be a bit more ambitious (progressive) with their song writing? I say, go the progressive route (like they always have), with a more updated sound. We heard hints of that on ARRIVAL, but they were, more or less constrained by SONY, which dictated the song choices on that record...too many ballads! Some of ARRIVAL's BEST stuff, in my opinion, was left on the cutting room floor. For instance, Sea Of Emotion should have been included instead of All The Way...

I'm anxious to hear which direction they go with the next studio CD and I HOPE it's released by EARLY next spring! ;) I know...WISHFUL thinking!

Perry probably has a goldmine of great material stashed away that could put Journey on the map again. I have no doubt.

Sea of Emotions, To Touch the Sky, Surrender, One World, I Can Breathe, Walking Away from the Edge, Remember Me, Good Time Tonight, Filmore Boogie......Any of these would have been 100x better than All the Way, Lifetime of Dream, With your Love and Loved by you

I agree!!! Uh, Fillmore Boogie is awesome. Flatout 100% kick ass guitar rock. Hey, I trust Neal..Do You??

Believe in the band that never gave us a bad album.....Now that's food for thought.

I'm thinking not, because Perry wrote most of his stuff with Jon & Neal. But even if he had some great stuff stashed away--wouldn't that be the biggest travesty of all? The point of the gift is to share it, isn't it? What is the point of having the greatest song ever written hidden away somewhere? If he actually has some jewels, someone, anyone should record them so the world could hear it.

Probably.
After all his bountiful time off, one would hope he had a goldmine or underground bunker , or garage, or in the very least a sock drawer, somewhere just absolutely oveflowing with the most symphonic melodious musical opuses ever composed or to be heard by human ears. However, I wouldn't bet your stepfather's turkey farm on that one just yet. Especially when considering the caliber of material on his last "album".

If anything, I'd like to think the music for his next release would arise from a goldmine, largely in part, as retribution, after how he manipulated his fans and deceptively aired and cleaned out his septic tank, put a cover on it, and attempted to put it on store shelves posing as his last "album".

*Ahem* GH+5 *Ahem*

Only time will tell.
Personally, I am VERY eagerly awaiting to see what Augeri brings to the mix this time out. He' s had plenty of time to become comfortable in the band and hopefully, he will be less reserved creatively and will spread his wings and write & arrange alot of material this time out.
Who knows, maybe this album will prove to be Augeri's "Infinity"?
If it even slightly reaches the caliber to that of his work on Tall Stories, I will be absolutely ecstatic.

However, I am a little concerned about Jon Cain saying that his fans are growing up and he needs to alter his writing to suit events and occurences in their daily lives. Not everyone is a teenager anymore, he claims, and he wishes to evolve the bands writing to be about more than just 'the usual boy meets girl, boy loves girl" run-of-the mill garden variety.
This I'd be totally ok with, if it wasn't for the fact that he recently admitted to writing a song about the late Marlon Brando.
-Listen, I don't care what age demographic you are in; young, old, middle age etc. NOBODY, I repeat, NOBODY wants to party down and sing and dance to a song about a morbidly obese, eccentric movie star.

Then again, maybe I'm wrong?
Who knows?
Maybe Jon cain has just penned this lineups DSB or SW.

I just heard "I'll Be Alright Without You" on the radio. What a great song.

The guys have to write more lyrics like that.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.........

Here we go again. Mr.Cain may have just realized that he himself is over the hill. He is looking a bit disheveled as of late.

:D

One of my favorite songs, atthistime! Unfortunately that famous trio, the one that created so much magic, is not to be, thanks to faces that shall remain nameless here, for the sake of not ticking off a certain someone.

:) ...Agree...Great song...I personally love the "Raised On Radio" album..
It was a good Journey/Steve Perry radio day here...Just before 6 am, the radio station played "Faithfully" and then I turned over to listen to another station about 20 minutes later and "Foolish Heart" began playing...During the noon hour, heard "Oh Sherrie".. :)

I'd love to hear "Still She Cries." Jon's keyboards are wonderful on this as on WYLAW, imo. I'll request it this noon and see what happens. Most stations have the Trial By Fire cd. I've never heard this song on the radio.

Isn't it obvious that they have no desire to do that? Any topic that is posted will have Perry injected into it.

As for Journey's upcoming new album....I'll believe it when I own it.

Is there any "official" word on a new album? any work been done on some tracks? any songs written?

I'm simply writing of the wonderful lyrics of some of Journeys past glory and as I stated, these are the type of lyrics that the fabled new album should have. I'm only trying to help. Come on! They have not even come close to their past songwriting talents, imo.

Sea of Emotion was on one of Jack Blades' solo albums. I have a copy on my iPod and it's a decent tune.

Cool. Sounds like Journey has some material for a new album them. To Touch The Sky sounds interesting.

OK ...let's make this thread current then. ECLIPSE proved to be an ambitious, edgier, more progressive sounding album. Many people also bitched about that. I personally like ECLIPSE, BUT the fans of the ballads and more pop rock stuff, did not. I also think poor promotion played a major part in this. At the end of the tour, the band was down to only 1 song from ECLIPSE in their setlist. That's pathetic.

SO..will Journey release another album of NEW material in 2013? Right now, my guess is probably not.

I thiny they will by '13 but REALLY need Azoff to push for a Target or Best Buy release, not WalMart, who may opt out anyway next album.

If I had to make a prediction, I would say that Journey will go the self distributed route again on their next CD if there is one. Honestly, I have no idea how many units Eclipse moved, but it has to be less than 100,000. Based on that, does anyone think it would be a good business decision for a big box retailer to front a ton of money for another exclusive CD? They've already gone to the GH well with the original Revelation package, so I don't think they have much left to offer for the big retailers in terms of exclusivity for a release. If there is another release, I can see one being Jon Cain produced and released via Frontiers Records, with sales online and at Journey shows similar to Generations.

Hell, I think WalMart will also try to pull off a trade with Target. Walmart will send the rest of their Eclipse back stock to Target for 2 cases of Charmin, 1 case of Aquafresh, and 3 cases of Kotex with wings.

The only way I can see them go the big box store route again is if they can somehow sell a Greatest Hits LIVE CD with Arnel at the helm. I doubt that though.

What is sad is that Styx has a Blu-ray concert disc at Wal-Mart. while Journey, who filmed a HD Gig in Manila doesn't have one at that store.
