I'm looking for suggestions on what would be a good choice for the next album I pick up. Maybe the album that has the most similiar sound to Snakes & Arrows? I'm sure this has been asked before, but if you could help a new Rush fan, that would be great.

Otherwise, your best bet it probably to start moving backwards chronologically. Vapor Trails is harder-edged and has a lot of passion but is not as well-produced. Test For Echo is a little flatter in delivery but the production sounds closer to S&A. Counterparts is a pretty good mix of the two.
They've also got a bunch of live albums and DVDs (I recommend R30 or Rush In Rio) which can give you a sort of career-at-a-glance perspective on their music, and from there you can trace the songs that you like most back to their respective albums.

If you like S&A, then pick up 'Counterparts'. It's a driving, melodic album that I think is similar to S&A.
...but if you want the good stuff, my friend...and I'm talking the REAL DEAL- you MUST own:
2112
A Farewell to Kings
Hemispheres
Permanent Waves
Moving Pictures
Classic, brilliant masterpieces, every one of them. I'd also throw in Signals, as it's a personal favourite of mine.
And for God's sake, pick up the 'Rush in Rio' and '30th Anniversary' DVDs- because seeing is believing
