"Rush: The Documentary" Update
The special Rush issue of Prog includes an update on the forthcoming Rush documentary.

"'We've been lucky, not only have we had access to [Rush management] SRO's archives but also Geddy, Alex and Neil's own personal archives,' enthuses director Dunn. 'I was just at Geddy's house this week. Going through his personal collection of memorabilia. I dug up some gems I don't think Rush fans have ever seen so we're hoping to offer something new.'...The as-yet untitled film will also feature contributions from a host of musicians who have toured with or been inspired by Rush, including Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, Tool, Foo Fighters, Kiss, Uriah Heep and Primus. Dunn and McMadyen look to complete filming at the end of this year, so a theatrical release is slated for early next summer. Watch out for exclusive footage of the three members interacting with each other in the band's unique way. 'We got some rare backstage footage in Europe,' Says Dunn. 'And the camaraderie between the three really comes across. They're almost telepathic and I think that's what's been behind their great success. They have such a deep understanding of each other's personalities and of each other's strengths. That's something that's pretty amazing to see and what we want to convey in the film.'" - Prog, Issue #3

After two years of anticipation, we have now learned that Rounder films has a "tentative" release date of May 18th for the long awaited Rush documentary produced by Toronto’s Banger Films. An official announcement is expected shortly.

The long awaited Rush documentary now has a name: "RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage" will premier at the Tribeca Film Festival running April 22 through May 2. - Thanks to RushIsABand.com for the headsup!
In addition, although we are still waiting for an official announcement, the film is expected to be released on DVD in June.

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, along with the documentary’s filmmakers, Scot McFadyen & Sam Dunn (whose filmography also includes: “Iron Maiden: Flight 666,” “Metal, A Headbangers Journey” and “Global Metal”) will all be on hand in New York to celebrate the release of this much-anticipated film.

Rush (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart) is one of rock’s most influential bands, ranking fourth for most consecutive gold and platinum albums behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. The band has engaged legions of devoted fans over the decades and are continually revered by generations of musicians. The documentary features never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with some of today’s most respected rock artists such as Billy Corgan, Taylor Hawkins, Trent Reznor, Sebastian Bach, Kirk Hammett and Gene Simmons. “Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage” explores the forty-year career and phenomenon behind what could be the world’s biggest cult band. The film will also appear at Toronto's Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, with showings Thursday, April 29th at 9:30PM at the Winter Garden Theatre and Friday, April 30th at 4:00PM at the Isabel Bader Theatre. We have also learned that the DVD is finished and "should be released" June 29th.

It really is very good, I was able to see it on the big screen and it was worth the wait.

Excellent documentary. Really enjoyed it.

Also, the "2112/Moving Pictures" Classic Albums DVD recently came out.

I have found this series to be very well done and this installment was no exception. That said, I was disappointed that they omitted a few tracks in their discussion (no talk of "Tears" or "Lessons" on "2112" and "Moving Pictures" stuck to only the obvious songs -- no mention of "With Hunt," "Vital Signs" and "The Camera Eye.")
