Don't know about yall, but I thought the last few cds have been lacking. The live cds have rocked, but the studio ones are just "there" Last truly GREAT Rush cd for me was Roll the Bones. Like the heaver sound since then, so maybe it is prodcution that isn't right. -ERIC

Well..I'll agree with you on "Feedback", but "Vapor Trails" has kicked "Permanent Waves"s ass in being my favorite Rush studio album (an album that's been #1 since about '85-'86). I just think they lyrics are outstanding and the instrumentals throughout the songs are SPECTACULAR and you find something new on each listen. I will say that the final production mix was a little loud...but "Roll The Bones" and "Presto" were WAAAAAAAAAAY too low. They just made up for it.lol.

Without trying to sound like a broken record, but in the Rush pantheon you have: 2112, Moving Pictures and Vapor Trails.

Maybe the production is offputting or the heaviness is shocking, but they haven't sounded this energetic and innovative since maybe Signals. I find Peaceable Kingdom is among the best songs they've ever written and Earthshine simply is the best.

I'm a big fan of 80's Rush and enjoy their 70's epics, but Vapor Trails clearly shows they still have a lot to say.

What put me off about the production, it was like everthing was recorded at the highest level possible-ERIC

I can't listen very long to "Vapor Trails". Sounds like it was recorded in someone's garage.

Anyway, my favorite Rush album and in my top 10 all time is "A Farewell to Kings".

New Rush Album News, Producer/Engineer Found, Spring Album Release: A few days ago rumors began to spread on the internet that producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Stone Sour, Velvet Revolver, etc.) had been hired for the next Rush album, along with engineer Rick Chycki (Rush R30 DVD, "Closer To The Heart" Tsunami benefit, etc.). Power Windows has confirmed off the record that these rumors are true, and that the band hopes to release the new album "hopefully early next spring" (fans can expect an official press release shortly). Ironically, in a June 2006 interview with EQ Magazine, when asked "are there any artists out there that you’d like a shot at producing?", Raskulinecz answered "Rush. That would be my dream album to make. Nobody plays like those guys anymore." - Sep. 1, 2006

Rush Wrestling With Faith On New Album

Rush has penned eight songs for its next studio album, which should be out in early 2007, according to drummer Neil Peart. The artist tells Billboard.com his lyrics for the as-yet-untitled set were greatly influenced by his motorcycle journeys throughout the United States, chronicled in the new book "Roadshow: Landscape With Drums."

Peart says he was struck by the ubiquity of religious billboards that have sprung up on America's highways, which got him thinking about some weighty topics. "Just seeing the power of evangelical Christianity and contrasting that with the power of fundamentalist religion all over the world in its different forms had a big effect on me," he says.

"You try to put your own way of seeing the world into some kind of congruence with other peoples, and that's difficult for me," he admits. "I mean, I see the world in what I think to be a perfectly obvious and rational way, but when you go out into it and see the way other people think and behave, and express themselves on church signs, you realize, 'Well, I'm not really part of this club.'"

"I looked for the good side of faith," Peart says. "To me it ought to be your armor, something to protect you and something to console you in dark times. But it's more often being turned into a sword, and that's one big theme I'm messing with."

Musically, the new album is continuing in much the same vein as 2002's "Vapor Trails," which returned Rush to a more guitar/bass/drums-driven sound. But Peart is quick to add that the music is "remarkably organic in a way that I haven't heard [from Rush] before. We spent a month together in May working on those songs and developing our individual instrument parts for them. It's early to characterize it, but it's definitely fresh and different and that's certainly satisfying."


Peart, bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson will regroup next month to finish pre-production and will begin recording in November. However, as Peart writes at the conclusion of "Roadshow," he is ambivalent about putting himself through yet another massive world tour.

"It is true that in 1989 I announced that I wasn't going to tour anymore, and have said that every time since and have gone back and decided [to do it] for all good reasons," he says. "One of the main ones to me is that a band plays live, so if I want to consider our band as a living, working thing then that's the case. I haven't in my own mind committed to [another tour] yet, but of course I haven't ruled it out, either."

News Regarding The Next Rush Album: "Canadian rock legends Rush will be co-producing their new studio album for Anthem Records with Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters). The American producer will be flying up to Toronto next week to meet with the band, which is in the demo phase right now. 'It's early stages. We have nine songs written so far,' says guitarist Alex Lifeson. 'We're going to continue until we have about 12 songs and finish up preproduction at the end of October, so we'll be really well prepared and then go in the studio in November and start recording...there's a quality about this record that's very expansive and musically lyrical. It's very melodic. I've written almost exclusively on acoustic guitar.
