New Peart book

Postby Angiekay » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:42 am

Rush drummer Neil Peart is back this week with a new book titled Roadshow : Landscape With Drums: A Concert Tour By Motorcycle. It's a chronicle of his time on the band's 30th anniversary tour across North America in 2004, when he rode his motorcycle between gigs, instead of getting on the tour bus with singer-bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson.

Peart said that traveling the country on his bike and interacting with people off the beaten path has affected his work as an author and as the main lyricist for Rush: "I'm writing through watching, you know, farm workers working in the fields, and watching people working in gas stations and in, in small-town restaurants, and all that. And those people become part of the world, and part of the human nature that I'm writing about. And I think that has to help, and definitely does help into giving me a much more real perspective on life as it is lived, you know, on an everyday basis for more people."

Roadshow is Peart's fourth book, following 2002's Ghost Rider: Travels On The Healing Road, and two from 2004 -- Traveling Music: The Soundtrack To My Life, and The Masked Rider: Cycling In West Africa.
Rush has been working on a new studio album that should be out next year.

Road Show is a great read...my favorite so far out of all of his books.

I agree. Its a great read. It also gives a good insight into why Neil shies away from fans so much. There are some scary people out there.

Try his official website http://www.neilpeart.net. It'll direct you to the best place to order the book from. It's a cool site too, although it takes a while to load. Alternatively, his official MySpace site http://www.myspace.com/neilpeartpratt loads quicker and also has links to buy the book.

"Ghost Rider" was a decent book, I'd say. One problem I had was that the trip was TOO DAMN LONG! I was interested until he got to Mexico, then I just "ran out of gas" and thought it was dragging too much.

I'm interested in "Road Show" now. I think that one's going to make it to my list of books to buy.

I agree it's quite long. I'm still reading it now, 3 months later, and he's in Mexico now. I actually took a break from it for about a month. At this rate, I should be done by the end of the summer.

I still am enjoying it though, and I'm looking forward to Road Show next.

Oh, it is. I'm working my way through Traveling Music right now, and that's being really good as well.
