OMFG!!! Hands down the GREATEST SPEECH by any inductee ever! Loved at the beginning when he was ... ahem... talking about the early years when he imitated Ged and how high his voice was.   That was truly fucking awesome!!!
And Pratt's metaphor about RUSH being "just a tiny point of light - shaped like a maple leaf." That was extremely well put.
Forgive me while I wax poetic for a sec but, I'm so happy and excited for them. I can't think of another band who side-stepped and ignored all the rules the record companies deem as "the road to success"and instead did it their way. Never compromising what they believed in just to satisfy some label exec or to garner sales. There's never been another band like them and I suspect there never will. And you'd think that at some point over the last 40 years there would have been at least a couple who gained some notoriety and/or fame by mimicking them - and maybe there were some who set out to be "the next RUSH" but found it so amazingly difficult to do that they fizzled before ever getting going.

The only one I can think of who even comes CLOSE is Dream Theater. Still worlds away from Rush, but they were HEAVILY influenced by them. Especially Petrucci and Portony (who's no longer with them). The humor side of them is definitely reflected on the Foo Fighters. If you've seen the "Learn To Fly" vid, you know. lol

Anyway....here's there induction by Dave and Taylor of Foo Fighters. You can TELL they're passionate.

Here's Foo Fighters doing Overture. HELL of a job. Plus, the 2112 getups are a nice touch.

Yup, watched both of those right after watching the speeches. Very cool that RUSH joined them for the last few bars of Overture.
Agree completely that DT is probably the closest that came to Rush. And speaking of those two bands in the same sentence... have you seen Portnoy's cover of YYZ with Paul Gilbert and Sean Malone? Fantasmagoric!! Portnoy even includes Pratt's original drum solo he did on the Exit Stage Left album which would have been what....? the Moving Pictutres tour, nes pas??

I'm gonna post the speeches link upstairs so those who don't come down here very much - or at all - can check it out. Alex's speech is too good to keep just to ourselves, no?

I like the fact that they again have equally divided up the duties with their speeches, Neil is gracious, eloquent, wordy and poignant; Ged spends his time highlighting the fans and conveying their appreciation for the years of support and then Big Al takes his turn and give the HOF a big "Fuck You" without Jann "Tool" Wenner even knowing he's done it.

At the beginning of the ceremonies, all Wenner said was "from Toronto" and they got a two minute standing ovation.. he's an asshat.

I love the fact that only Rush fans knew what he was doing.
