omg. The Celine solo made my ears bleed.

Lora I thought the same thing. Her voice on the song was ear bleeding. The best part of the song is Steve and Daryl Hall's parts. Those two were born to sing R&B music. :D

The video remake will air tonight during the open ceremonies of the Olympics. I still can't believe they remade this. How can you replace Steve, Daryl Hall, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson? You can't.

The original line up had so much talent.............I like the fellow in the black coat. :D

Anyone see the video of the remake tonight during the Olympics? OMG rapping in the middle of the song. They ruined a great song. It was horrible and ear bleeding. Babs sang Steve's part in the song.....

I LOVE the original...all my favorite singers were in it. This remake is awful...just awful. Like DSB, this song is timeless...does not need updating to get the youths' attention. I like Celine...and Barbra...but not here.

Ewww...yes, I heard it tonight during the Olympics. I hate rap to begin with. Wasn't too fond of the original song when it first came out in the 80s either, but it is much better than this new version. WTH, don't they have enough talent involved to write a new original song for Haiti?! Leftovers.

I saw it, thinking Perry will be OK with Barbara Striesand singing his part. Another legand to do the job!

Celine Dion bugged the crap out of me however

Supposedly what they showed last night is not the "long" or "full" version. Wonder when that will be aired, anyone hear?

Barbara was great. Celine not so much in places, which is shocking b/c she has just an amazing voice. She started out great the first part, but then she tried to belt out her vocals and ended up oversinging a few times and sounded shrill. Pink rocked.

Even beyond all the rapping in the song, another problem is they just didn't have enough wonderful varying textures in voices going from singer to singer like they did in the old one: Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Perry, Stevie Wonder, Huey Lewis, Cindy Lauper, on and on.

Wow, I actually liked it ALOT! It was uplifting. It was celebratory. It made me think of from ashes comes life. I loved all the parts. Good job. I think the only comparison is that it's not the old version of the song; it's current and it's filled with popular singers of the year 2010 like Jennifer Hudson, Pink, the Beiber fellow, Jamie Foxx, and a lot of younger singers although Tony Bennet was there because he wasn't there before. Even the rap fit into the current time and sounds. Good job! And the fact they brought the people of Haiti into view and how the people will survive and will go on with their lives and not succumb to the devastation of the earthquake. Very very good.

I forgot about Jennifer Hudson. She was fantastic. I was all for the new version b/c it would sell to the newer generation, whereas an '85 version wouldn't. So fine with the young and fresh, but it was not that good. And Wycleff's warbling was horrendous. Missed the boat on this one, but I hope they do sell many as it is for a good cause. I think they could have done a better version that would have appealed to a wider audience and still been hip enough.

oh yes, he did indeed warble and that was not good at all. i thought maybe it was something i did not understand so i was kind of turned off by it; but otherwise with Celine doing Cydny Lauper's part with the shreiking; I thought it was a good job.

Nothing will beat the original! I did actually like the rap in the middle :) I guess that I need to see it again. I thought that Mary J Blige did Steve Perry's part? And, she sounded great :D It has been a while since I have seen the original, so I better go back and review both... I was a bit disappointed with the Celine and Barbara moments :o

Here is the longer version on the song and at 2:35 into the video you do get a small glimpse of a man sitting down wearing that infamous black coat :D ...so Steve does make a teeny tiny appearance in the new video of the remake. :D Okay so it's teeny tiny but at least its Steve. :D Sad that about 80% of the performers I have no clue who they are. Oooh did I see Randy Jackson....yep it's the dawg! :D I still think the remake is horrible.....

Nice catch, FtloP...had to squint to see SP, lol. I'm like you, don't know 80% of the performers...hard to get into this remake when you don't know who the hell is singing those iconic verses. There's Celine, Barbra, Tony, MaryJBlige, JoshGroban...and the actor JamieFoxx...and teenybopper MileyCyrus...that's about it. Oh, a JonasBro is in there, somewhere, right?

Btw, great avatar...is that photoshopped or an actual drawing?

Ok, finally watched both the videos. I was wrong it wasn't Mary J Blige, but Pink that does Steve Perry's part. Now I am even happier :D Either one is better then Babs
