Steve Perry with America

Postby Jana » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:40 am

I found this brief clip of Steve coming on a show and singing with America, and the audience going crazy when he came out. It is a song he, along with others, helped co-write with the band. Apparently, the whole live song was removed from the internet before.

Would love to see the rest of it, too. This is the only clip that I have ever come across, and it's been a couple of years.

Love this song by American. Funny how the song came about....

"Steve Perry and I both lived in Marin County, and I think I ran into him at a home depot type store." Bunnell says. "We became friendly and wrote a few things together. I started this song with Steve, and then he came down to L.A. to help finish the song." Bunnell continued.
"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't loose it."

Can't Fall Asleep To A Lullaby
Written by Dewey Bunnell, Steve Perry, Bill Mumy, and Robert Haimer, ©1984
It's late at night, I'm all alone
I call you up, hear your voice on the phone
Say that you're mine, tell me it's true
Say that my love, is still right for you

'Cause I can't fall asleep to a lullaby
And I miss you so much I don't wanna cry, you are why
I love you, oo-oo-oo, you don't know

Here I am, part of the crowd
Need you so bad, I'm dreamin' out loud
Say that you're mine, tell me it's true
Say that my love, is still right for you

'Cause I can't fall asleep to a lullaby
And I miss you so much I don't wanna cry, you are why
I love you, oo-oo-oo, you don't know

It's late at night, and I'm all alone
So I call you up, to hear your voice on the phone
Sayin' your mine, sayin' it's true
Please say my love, is still right for you

'Cause I can't fall asleep to a lullaby
And I miss you so much I don't wanna cry, you are why
I love you, oo-oo-oo, you don't know

Here's some useless trivia...Bill Mumy, the co-writer of this song, played Will Robinson on Lost in Space. He was also part of Barnes and Barnes, who gave us the God-aweful Fish Heads song!

I think I do PF, whenever I get time I'll go through my stuff and see if I can find it. I know I have a performance of Steve with America singing a whole song but I'm not sure if it's this one or not.
