Deboarding the Perry Rail System

Postby WIX » Sat Feb 12, 2011 4:17 am

Well what a ride it has been. And most of the fun has been in the last 10 years going to concerts in anticipation of the certain comeback one day. Sure this train has had a few new conductors over the years. I like many supported these changes to try and live the dream of what was, is, and is to be.

But in the end of this Journey of the past we all wanted the original conductor back.

It appears that after staring out the window of this train since 1996. That although it has been bitter sweet. It is time for me to get off this particular train of hope.

It is time to board the train of reality. No more stupid you tubes, no more hoping, no more wearing wigs and lip syncing in the mirror. For this Fan has grown tired too.

Once I stopped dreaming. It was a cruel reality that the train had been sitting in the station for the last 15 years parked. It was my mind that was making the train move. With a whirl wind of imagination of what it would be like when the Master Conductor came home.

As I deboard the train and notice the years of dust and the dirty windows. The cob webs and the remnants of what was. And a dirty pair of Kmart Spandex laying next to me in the seat. I have no regrets other than maybe feeling I should have woke up a long time ago.

But as this story ends I still maintain that Steve Perry was, and is. In my mind the greatest conductor without a doubt. I will probably die defending this claim as I have for so many years.

The dream of meeting the man has died inside me as well. The closest I got was in a light snow storm in Utah in 1994 after waiting two hours. He walked about 10 feet from a group of us, smiled and that was it.

I suppose nobody knows the torture and beauty of fame more than a man who has touched it and let it go.

So Steve, from your number #1 Fan. Thank you for your gift of music as I too walk away from the Perry train!

Is this one of those thousand word assignments they made you write in rehab?

All joking aside, it's probably a sentiment shared by a few other people also.

I don't feel like a dream died. People get older and sometimes want to retire. It is and has been more of a transition. A true fan of the band can understand and accept this.
