Everything I hear from the last part of the tour shows him getting range and power back and I have to wonder what if... Damage or not it seems the more he does it the better no matter what age limitations are thrown at him.. A new cd would be better if he was out playing and singing his ass off than just singing in to the mic in the studio as proved by how many times he out sang the studio versions live as a regular thing.
I agree.
By Perry's own admission, he said he'd need somewhere around 10 to 16 weeks to get back into serious vocal shape (I'm paraphrasing of course). I have no doubt he's still got tools to work with, but he certainly has challenges ahead that could prevent him from getting him across the goal line. The biggest challenge is his own personal drive. This will depend on how much it means to him. Having a creative itch he wants to scratch is a starting point, but he might need more motivation to cross the finish line. Each hurdle his encounters could be daunting and it's oh so easy to just slip back into retirement, you know? That he's building a studio in his home speaks to his new found desire, and that's huge. Hopefully the money he's spending will make him want to see it through - heh. His new girlfriend could be a huge source of inspiration and motivation here as well. Knowing his perfectionism, I suspect he'll put himself through the paces before he records anything other than demos. I don't expect we'll hear anything Journey related. I think he's outgrown the sound and has been inspired by other artists who's work he admires from an emotional perspective.
The question is: Will he tough it out and push through or slip out of the motivational pocket and give up. Time will tell -- but -- I have my fingers crossed for a solo album in a year or two.
PS: Tater, thanks for those other links!
