Steve Perry Says He's Making New Music, But Touring May Be Impossible

While former Journey vocalist Steve Perry is working on making some new music, fans shouldn't expect him to tour once the new album is released. "I'm no spring chicken," the 62-year-old singer told ABC News Radio. "Rock and roll has given me some physical pain challenges, arthritically, and so I'm doing my best to navigate that. But [touring] certainly would be a dream come true if I could do that." Perry hasn't toured since the '90s when he was diagnosed with a degenerative bone condition after suffering a hip injury while hiking in Hawaii. Perry had hip replacement surgery to fix the problem in 1998.

Perry says despite his physical limitations, he really would like to return to the concert stage because he misses performing in front of a live audience. In fact, he claims that the fans gives him the extra boost he needs to hit his signature high notes. "The extra fervor that's required for me to get a certain vocal thing that I love doing, I can't almost do it without [the audience] staring at me," noted Perry. "They kind of bring it out of me and make me go get it for them, not for me. I miss that because I can't find that without them."

Once Perry has compiled all the material for the new album he's working on, he tells ABC News Radio that he plans to put together a unique combination of great musicians to help him record it. "When I record all this stuff I'm gonna use some of the best [musicians] I know that have heart and soul," he says. "Some are famous and some are not famous, but they certainly have a certain way of playing and interpreting their instrument."

SP helped Steve L. son Trev with that song "Broken" a few years back. Trev had it on his web page at one time. Also think there was the Nelsens twins that Steve L played guitar on the 1 song & dedicated it to SP & Journey..
Would be great to hear SL on it with SP...
