Like most members of this board, I have been extremely happy to read and listen to all of Steve's recent interviews...from him opening up about his feelings towards the band, to his enthusiasm to finally get back to recording...even if only for his ears to hear.

But what stumps me is the number of previous mentions – and there have been a few – by drummer Russ Miller, about recording with Steve back in 2009. A completed album is even listed on his discography: http://www.russmiller.com/v5/discography_albums.html

I thought perhaps he was referring to the R&B artist named Steve Perry. Nope. The Cherry Poppin' Daddy's Steve Perry? Nope. All directions point to THE Steve Perry. Russ even worked closely with Steve Smith for a while, which for me added more practicality to the rumor (if you're gonna play for THE MAN, learn from THE OTHER MAN how to do so!).

But all recent interviews by Perry give no indication that anything has been recorded.

Is anyone else scratching their heads over this? Has material been recorded and scrapped?

My guess is he probably recorded with Miller, but wasn't happy with the result and looks at them as "sketches" or "demos". Nothing Perry would consider a finished song worthy of release.

I don't think Perry is being critical of just his vocals on the songs. I think he's nit picking about every aspect of the song, including the structure, how it flows, how the sections relate to one another and whether or not it's hitting the emotional zone he's always chasing. He probably started the process, got disenchanted by not getting what he's after, and stopped. Now, probably with the encouragement of his significant other, he's being pushed to finish what he started.

Thats what I think, anyway...

He never talks about the material he recorded with Nuno Bettencourt either, but we know they recorded together back during the FLTOSM period, and that was never released either.
