Steve Perry Ex-Frontman of Journey Working on New Album, Maybe

Where oh where has "The Voice" disappeared to? Working on a new album, we can only hope.

I always like to say it’s the gift that keeps on giving, and one certainly misses the music and strong raspy vocals of ex-Journey frontman Steve Perry. One can only hope that Steve is soon to return back to the studio and grace our ears with his voice once again.

In the shadows of the music industry lies a master of the craft, an artist that gives a lot of credit to the baseball San Fransisco Giants for helping him get back into music. In a December 2010 article of Classic Rock Magazine, Steve said he had written about 50 songs.

As far as putting any kind of time frame on new music from Steve, he stated in the interview he couldn’t do that, yet he smelled a new solo effort in the horizon. He will be recording something. It’s been a long time at least going back to 1998 that we’ve heard new music.

Steve resides in Del Mar, California which is part of North County San Diego. Being from San Diego myself I am very familiar with the area. I wonder if he ever goes to the Del Mar Raceway (horse racing)?

Steve is building a recording studio in his home with a complete sound board. Anyone that would go that extreme, sounds to me that new music is about to explode in our ears. Steve talks of the arthritis that grounded him in the first place and that touring is a lot of work and the fact he’s afraid it might suck, Really? He also mentioned in an interview that can be found on PEREZHILTON.com and Ultimate Classic Rock he talks of how impressed he is with Eric Clapton’s ability to continue as long as he has.

Apparently back in February 2012 Steve took a turn at being a DJ on a station in San Diego.

Steve seems to be pretty happy these days, and likes that fact he is under no pressure at all to produce a new album.

As far as the fans of his music, I can sum up in three words,”We can’t wait”.

Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

Can't we stop flogging this dead horse?
I'm bored of this same lame rumor being trooped out every year without fail for the last 17 years.
Enjoy the music we have, and forget any new stuff coming our way. Ain't happening.
Someone has to be honest here, and face reality. Sad, but true.

For the most part, I'd have to agree.
BUT
If Perry did come out with something, it would have to be an album of standards (like Stewart and Manilow have done) to be even considered remotely relevant. I don't care how long he grows his hair or how dark he dyes it, time and the industry have passed Perry by.
Dude ain't no Tony Bennett.

Sure, we would all like to hear some new songs. Anything. I just no longer believe it will happen.

I jumped off this train (new material) 2 years ago. He comes out (if you research) every 8 months to a year, and throws out these subtle hints at new material, for one reason and one reason only. To keep the merchandise / cd sales bandwagon going. He doesn't tour like other musicians. Remember...musicians that tour make alot more money percentage wise, compared to merch/cd sales, etc. So the only money Steve is making is from merch and music sales so I'm convinced this is just a way to market himself and keep the royalty band wagon moving, by keeping his name in the public eye. And if I was in his shoes...I'd do the same exact thing.

Let's face it....the man loved to sing. If he could still sing and do justice to himself....he would have had new material released by now. The fact is...he is 63 years old now...we would settle for sub par Steve, but Steve wouldn't, and for that reason alone...we'll never see new material from him.

Sadly...I also think the nail in the coffin was Arnel on lead vox. Steve could of competed and perhaps done better than other recent Journey vocalists, especially if they tuned down a bit like his FTLOSM solo tour did, but there is simply no way he could out sing Arnel on lead vox and everyone would be comparing 63 year old Steve to a 40'ish Arnel. And that's something he would probably avoid like the plague. :(

That's because Elvis is driving a cab nowadays to earn a living, and Steve just sits at home. :D
