Cassidy's debut album "Follow the Freedom" features reclusive Journey singer Steve Perry while her live show pays tribute to Bruce Springsteen.

After fronting the successful rock band Antigone Rising, singer Cassidy used a summer residency at Los Angeles troubadour haunt the Mint to try something you can't always do with three other players surrounding you: experiment.

"I wanted to try new things and see how people react," Cassidy, now known as her solo act Bohème, tells THR. "The reactions from the crowd help me figure out what works and what doesn't."

With powerhouse vocals that instantly bring to mind Janis Joplin, the singer admits that the music of the 70s has had a tremendous influence on her development as a songwriter and performer. It's no wonder Bohème chose to cover Bruce Sprinsteen's "Blinded By the Light" regularly (see video below). On one such Mint night in early June, Cassidy reminded all in attendance, "Now that's what a rock band sounds like, in case you were wondering."

Bohème's album Follow the Freedom, released in February and produced and written entirely by Cassidy, has some serious rock cred of its own. Its name: Steve Perry, the reclusive Journey singer who appears on the title track and is a friend and fan of Cassidy's.

But even beyond the noteworthy cameo, the record received positive reaction from critics and Antigone fans, and as she restarts and raises her profile for a second time, Cassidy takes comfort in knowing that so far, her risks are paying off. "We took some chances with this album," she says. "I want people to know they can expect lots of things from me."
