From television shows like “The Sopranos” and “Glee” to the Broadway
musical “Rock of Ages,” Journey’s rock anthem “Don’t Stop Believin’” just keeps going on, and on and on and on. And the song is no stranger to the sports world.
The Red Wings have used it for years, with the hometown fans bellowing, “born and raised in South Detroit.” The White Sox, Dodgers and Giants have all at one time adopted the song. Steve Perry, the former lead singer for the San Francisco-based Journey and a Giants fan, was part of the team’s victory parade after the 2010 season. And a local performer created a parody of the song during the Giants’ playoff run.
The latest inspiration for a parody of “Don’t Stop Believin’” was Mariano Rivera’s knee injury and comes from the YouTube entertainment channel NOC. Yankees fans aren’t ready to see their great reliever call it a career. And how could he let them down after hearing lines like, “Closer with the cold-blood stare, stricken by meniscus tear?”
