Sure, super-rich pop and rock stars can just write a check to their favorite charities, but it’s a lot more fun if they can get fans involved, too. Last year, stars including ex-Journey singer Steve Perry and Bruce Springsteen did just that — and raised over a quarter of a million bucks to boot.

CharityBuzz, a website that auctions off unique celebrity experiences for good causes, has announced which stars pulled in the most money last year by putting themselves on the block. Among the stars making the top 20 were Perry at #8, the Boss at #9, Cyndi Lauper at #18 and Paul McCartney at #20.

Perry, who hasn’t released an album in years and is extremely reclusive, brought in a whopping $75,000 for the City of Hope when he auctioned off a chance to have coffee with him. A chance to meet Springsteen backstage, as well as tickets to two of his concerts, brought in $72,500 for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund.

Meanwhile, Lauper raised $37,500 for Rosie O’Donnell‘s Theater Kids charity by selling the chance to join her in the audience for a performance of her Tony-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots. And a chance to appear on stage with McCartney, Tom Hanks and Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson in a Shakespeare play earned just over $35,000 for The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

All this is impressive, but the biggest celebrity auction of the year on CharityBuzz was the chance to have coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook at Apple Headquarters. That went for a whopping $610,000.
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

Thank you for posting that tater. I think it says so much about them. I would love to be able to ask SP if he was surprised at how much he raised. I am willing to bet he was because he seems so humble. I'm not because if I had that kind of money I would have bid it, but I bet he was. WTG SP!!!!!!

That really tells me alot about the popularity and respect that Steve Perry still has, even without really being in the spotlight anymore. Pretty cool Perry really doesnt have to go out there and try to be in the limelight and he is still really popular among the public. I am glad that he also raised more money than Springsteen too!
