Steve Perry Won’t Be Reuniting With Journey

by Dave Lifton February 6, 2014

It appears that the latest round of rumors regarding Steve Perry rejoining Journey are untrue. The band’s management has denied that any such communication has taken place between the two camps.

Over at MelodicRock.com, Andrew J. McNeice writes, “I can 100 percent confirm there has been no business/reunion communication between the camps, and while everyone is on good terms, with no issues, there are no plans for any kind of reunion or attempts to work together in the foreseeable future. As Journey management stated to me today, ‘No reunion plans . . . all is well in the Journey camp . . . big tour in the U.S. this summer — Journey/Steve Miller and Tower of Power.’”

Earlier this week, in response to yet another question about the possibility of him rejoining Journey, Perry said, “It’s tough. I’m doing my best in that area, and I can only do so much.”

McNeice suggests that Perry’s statement “is basically a polite answer to the question he is always going to be asked. And watching him say it on video gives it better context than the quote in text. . . . But don’t get too excited, folks. My source states that any hype is just hot air.”

Steve Perry Talks Reuniting With Journey; Band Says "No Plans"

http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2014/02 ... -with.html

Steve Perry recently told The Pulse of Radio that he is working on reuniting with his former band Journey but management for the band say it's not going to happen.

As early as last July, there was some movement with Neal Schon with the guitarist posting on Perry's Facebook "We had amazing chemistry together ... Steve, let's talk soon."

Perry stoked the rumors earlier this week when he told Artisan News that "We're trying ... The older I get, the more I do realize how important what we had all together and how it worked."

One thing that is known is that, if Perry were to reunite with the band, it would not be at the expense of current lead singer Arnal Pineda. Schon has stated that Arnal is with the band for as long as it stays together.

On Wednesday, the site MelodicRock.com, which is from the company that owns Frontiers Records where Journey records, posted a statement that debunks most of the talk:

Stories printed earlier today around the world commenting on Steve Perry talking to Neal Schon/Journey once again are totally inaccurate. I can 100% confirm there has been no business/reunion communication between the camps and while everyone is on good terms, with no issues, there are no plans for any kind of reunion or attempts to work together in the foreseeable future.

As Journey management stated to me today: "No reunion plans...all is well in the Journey camp...big tour in the US this summer - Journey/Steve Miller and Tower of Power."

I can add that Steve's recently quoted responses to media about his situation: “I haven't worked with Neal. We're trying. It's tough. I'm doing my best in that area and I can only do so much,” is basically a polite answer to the question he is always going to be asked. And watching him say it on video gives it better context than the quote in text".

A couple of media outlets have seized on the week old comments suddenly, giving them new life. But don't get too excited folks. My source states that any hype is just "hot air..."

Good Lord, I think everyone got so excited that they just let their eyes skim over what he said and heard what they wanted to hear. I know I did. I heard him say that he was trying to let go of all those feelings that were not kind towards Neal and the band and not look at things leaving him cross eyed with anger. We all know the story after having read about it and written stinging posts condemning or praising one party or the other over the years. I think he was trying to be honest and it's about time everyone let go of the anger and bitterness and be friends because they were great friends for a good long time. I don't think I read that he was talking about a return to the band I think I heard him say that he wanted to be cordial to the other men in the band. They did so much good together. You know when you get older that other cheesy stuff doesn't matter; it's water under the bridge and you have to think about what's right for your soul. You know what you did wrong and you know what you think they did wrong and you leave it at that and move on. Happiness is something we all need to think about getting and holding on to in our lives. What good does it do if we can say that we were able to hold a grudge with someone for 20 years or 30 years?

These "journalists" - and I use that term hesitantly, are just trying to stir shit and get hits for their pathetic websites. How unprofessional and desperate. Watching the video clip, it is obviously just an awkward moment that they tried to spin into something it wasn't.

I would not trust a site that had to constantly correct itself. Sounds like girls gossiping instead of journalism. Thanks for letting us know.

Steve Perry May Be Rejoining Journey

By Daryl Nelson · 3 hours ago

http://www.webpronews.com/steve-perry-m ... ey-2014-02

The 80s band Journey have always told their fans,”Don’t Stop Believing,” so it’s possible that people kept their hopes up that front man Steve Perry would rejoin the group one day.

Well, there’s a good chance that may happen, because Perry said that he and some band mates have been talking about bringing the original lineup back together.

So far the lead singer has been speaking to Neal Schon, who co-founded the band, but he says it’s still difficult to get everyone on the same page professionally and creatively.

“It was challenging, because Neal Schon is a goldmine of potential ideas and he doesn’t know really, which are the best or not, cause they’re all interesting to him.” said Perry. “But in come my set of ears and he’d play stuff and I’d hear melodies, I’d say ‘Wait, what was that?,’ and [his response would be] ‘Oh, I don’t know, it’s just a diddle-a doh over this with a fifth.’”

“I’d say ‘I don’t care what you call it, what was that?’ ‘I don’t know, it’s just an idea I came up with last night.’ I’d say, ‘Well, why don’t you keep playing that for a second while I come up with a melody?’”

And that folks is what’s been keeping Perry from rejoining the band since he left for a second time in 1998. The first time was in 1987.

Typically when a band breaks up or somebody leaves, creative differences are just one of the reasons, and there’s usually a bunch of other problems to deal with, like the members not liking each other, or one of the people in the band develops a drug problem or something–so it may surprise some to hear the only issue for Journey is not being able to agree on a song concept or a particular melody.

Hopefully Perry and Schon will be able to creatively coexist, at least for the sake of Journey’s fans, because there’s tons of people who still want to see the original lineup back together.

Plus, there’s no one who hits the same notes as Perry, so his absence in the group has always been heavily felt, and that’s certainly no disrespect to his replacements Steve Augeri or Arnel Pindea.

I don't really follow the band anymore but so many of my friends pointed me to these irresponsible posts. I saw the video and KNEW it was just a quick diplomatic answer from Steve Perry just to be nice. Still can not believe how many people didn't see that for what it was.

New future rumor: Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory and Steve Smith die before reuniting to play together one final time. They've all thought about it for years but none had the courage to lead, pick up the phone, get past their issues, and get the band back together for a final go around. RIP Boyz

The boyz are going to regret not getting their crap together to do this. Some one step up please, you know you all want it.
