Thoughts on SP's Cameos

Postby annie89509 » Sun Jun 22, 2014 9:32 pm

Now is time to reflect after excitement has died down, what ya’ll think about Steve’s surprise performances? Hey, we’ve got to pass the time until the release of his new album, right?

I hear (read) random comments (not here,.., on yt) saying SP should now do his own shows, a tour even. Personally, as much as I would love to see SP live (and he is the only artist I would pay any price at any time in any city to go see), I am okay with the occasional walk-ons. I would hate for him to stretch himself doing a complete show and hurt those 65-yr old vocal cords. And we all know how brutal critics can get.

But, of course, Steve knows what’s he doing. Just my 2cents… :D

I think Steve should begin the recording process in earnest to release some the music he's been writing over the years.

Concurrently, I think he should form a backing band to sing with on a few, select, small theater type gigs...to really see what he's still got vocally and to continue to "knock the rust off" his pipes.

I would love to buy his new album. (that's positive thinking) As far as touring I would be fine if he felt like he didn't want to do that. But I also understand that many people want him to tour, especially those that have never seen him, because it is a very special thing to see and to hear. But as for myself, I would just be happy to hear his new music. :) I just had to edit and say if he did tour I would go see him for sure. :D

Steve always seems to shine brightest when performing in front of a live audience. Much of what was great about these 3 appearances was watching him become more comfortable and relaxed, and obviously enjoying it more with each one. If these cameo's have lit that fire for him again, we may see some more live performances, solo, with lots of cuts from the new album he'll release (positive thinking here too), and whatever couple of Journey songs he wants to toss in. At least that's what I'm hoping for.
In reading the Q&A from Fan Asylum the one that caught my attention was:

Loved your "SPelfie" at the Wash D.C. show. Would you consider doing more of those?
SP: I may do another "SPelfie" very soon.

I'm still trying to figure out what "very soon" might mean.

It was a thrill to see and hear him onstage with Eels and so naturally we can't help but think if there will be more...somewhere, somehow. But, as long as he is having a good time in whatever way he chooses I'll be happy...thank goodness for youtube, right? But, can you imagine him on stage with HIS OWN audience? Of course, I'm sure it would be very loud & he might not even be heard. :)
