Whatever’s keeping Steve Perry from buckling down in the studio and finishing a new solo album doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon, but fans of the former Journey singer can at least take heart knowing that eventually, we’ll be able to cobble together a live record out of his surprise appearances at public events.

Perry, a huge baseball fan and avowed supporter of his hometown San Francisco Giants, has made a habit in recent years of showing up at the team’s games and leading the crowd during runs through the evergreen Journey hit ‘Don’t Stop Believin” — and he did it again on Oct. 6, surfacing in the stands during the 7th-inning stretch.

It didn’t keep the Giants from falling to their playoff opponents, the Washington Nationals, but it did extend a San Francisco sports tradition that’s meant a lot to Perry as well as the fans; as he told reporters in 2011, the Giants’ 2010 playoff run touched him on a personal level. “I can’t put into words what the Giants have done for me emotionally. It’s beyond words,” he admitted. “In a lot of ways, they’ve saved me and they’ve gotten me back into music, to be perfectly honest with you. They touched me in a way that made me excited about music again.”

Between this and his recent penchant for taking the stage at Eels gigs, it’s almost like Perry’s been on tour this year. To watch his most recent playoff appearance as part of a Major League Baseball-curated supercut collecting his other Giants singalongs, just hit “play” on the video above.

Journey's Steve Perry Leads 'Don't Stop Believin'' Sing-Along at Giants Game

Steve Perry, the former lead singer of Journey, was in high spirits Monday watching his San Francisco Giants take on the Washington Nationals in the MLB playoffs. Every fan wants to help out their favorite team, so Perry did what he does best, leading the crowd in a spirited sing-along of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" (What other song could he choose? It's the playoffs!) Watch a video recap below:

Actually, Marabelle, no... This was during Game 3 (Monday)... Giants lost this game. They had to go to Game 4 (on Tuesday) to beat out the Nationals -- 3 games to 1. Now, it's on to the NL championship series against St. Louis Cardinals to play a 7-games series (starting Saturday). First team winning 4 games competes in the World Series against the AL champion (K.C. Royals or Baltimore Orioles).

If the Giants are fortunate enough to go all the way, they would have done it in 2010, 2012, 2014 (even years). This... having had no W/S (Major League Baseball) champion (ever) in S.F. since they moved here from N.Y. in 1958 (we waited 52 yrs! for one)... while endured 5 championships for hated rival (LA Dodgers) in same time span. Gleefully, I believe Dodgers last championship was in '88. So, it's been awhile for them now. Last 2 years, Dodgers won the Division, but lost in NLCS and NLDS, respectively. Giants got in this year as one of the two Wild Card teams... beat Pittsburgh Pirates (1 game series) and now, Washington Nats (who were heavy favorite to win it all). That's baseball for ya -- unpredictable....

I see from all the recaps, Steve was back out to the park on Tues for Game 4 -- doing the pregame "Play Ball" working the crowd up. Giants did finish off the Nationals this night. Thank goodness! Would have been tough if they had to go back to DC for Game 5.

Next opponent - St. Louis Cardinals ... need to win 4 games out of 7 (2 in St. L ... 3 in S.F. ...2 in St. L)

I wonder if he's going to wear himself out! He's like a kid! Running around the stadium, flipping his leg over the railing...and all those hand gestures and singing! Now if he could just harness some of that energy he'd really be something else! Go Team! Haha!
