Steve Perry left Journey for the second (and probably final time) on May 7, 1998. Seventeen years ago today. A truly sad anniversary. Today, Journey fans are firmly divided into two camps: those who remain eternally loyal to Perry and refuse to accept anyone else holding the microphone. And those who still pay good money to see three of the members of the classic lineup, along with singer Arnel Pineda.
A few years ago, I had the rare honor of interviewing Steve Perry. He had just remastered Journey's Greatest Hits: Volume 2. We talked for about 45 glorious minutes, covering everything from ex-girlfriends (his "Oh Sherri" story), his thoughts on Neal Schon, and the music he's making today.
