10 Things you Might Not Know about Birthday Boy Steve Perry

http://wfxnthefox.iheart.com/onair/sixx ... -14302590/

Former Journey singer Steve Perry turns 67 today. We all know him for his hits with the band like “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Open Arms,” and for his solo music like the classic tune “Oh Sherrie,” but here are ten things you might not know about him:

Why Steve Perry’s “Oh Sherrie” Video Is A Cheesy Masterpiece
  

Today (January 22nd) is Steve Perry’s birthday, and while the singer is best known for his time with Journey, we’d like to focus a bit on his solo career, particularly the wonder that is the video for his 1984 hit “Oh Sherrie.”

A time capsule of absurdity, “Oh Sherrie” is a video within a video, and its intro shows a frustrated Perry clearly unsatisfied with the super cheesy premise of his original music video where he’s playing a King…a Knight…a Duke? Either way, it’s something royal. He then has to interact with a moron of a director and a horrendously stereotypical publicist figure. It all becomes too much, so he must get away…

…AND JUST SING “OH SHERRIE” OFF CAMERA!

Of course, while this is all happening, chaos is occurring behind-the-scenes, like the guy at the 3:35 mark ripping up the video script (classic!), but this madness doesn’t stop Perry from wooing (we assume) Sherrie all while playing a broom like a guitar, because who could resist a move like that, am I right ladies?

So, why does all of this equate to a “masterpiece?” Because the video is the definition of “it’s so bad, it’s good.” Also, with the help of a super catchy song and massive staircase, Perry still gets his girl and rides off into the sunset, and by “rides off into the sunset” we mean totally walks off the set and away from the aforementioned moron of a director.

Good move, Steve. We would've done the same.

Is it finally his birthday? It's been so quiet that I wondered if there would be a birthday celebration. Sending him best wishes, burning candles, colorful balloons and birthday cake for his special day! I don't know why I always begin to think that his birthday is the 29th of the month or even another date in a different month; but each year we celebrate this date. So, hoping he enjoys his 365 days around the sun!

My granddaughter got ahold of me to get her tickets to see the Twenty One Pilots concert and she didn't turn me loose till I fell into bed in a cross eyed wreck after looking over all those seats to get the one she wanted...:) Ok, your turn to post some music, its not The Voices Birthday music , but its just any good day to listen to some good music....Luvya Fezzy Rosie Corona Cowherd

Good gracious Ms Cowherd, doesn't his message make you imagine that he's working day and night, chained to his equipment, singing until he is exhausted, dragged out of the studio in the early morning hours; driving home to his loved ones, collapsing in his bed and then getting up the next day and doing it all again. It makes me feel like a character in a "true" movie where we're pleading for him to have some "mercy" on himself and just let him know to let it all happen in its time. I love cheering for the protagonist as I watch all they have to endure while they make their masterpiece. Oh, it's going to be so good! I can hardly wait!

I completely agree Ms Burbank!

My thought is that Steve is creating a beautiful masterpiece in honor of his late Kellie Nash, the love of his life as he mentioned with the Eels! Those feelings and stories would be painful to revisit and re-love and share with the world! He will be protective and vulnerable and it has to become difficult for him sometimes! He seems to suffer from work related stress quite a bit, where he is a perfectionist and it is painstaking to work it out to where he is happy with it, at this time he is still in the midst and he is a very intense working man!! Like it would be difficult to deal with him in this state! Whew, watch out!! What does he mean with "Until Life finds where I Live? I am thinking it means before death takes him like the other artist who have passed this year! Grievous Celine Dion, such tremendous loss at once! Steve is perhaps just now coming to terms with Kellies death and it's a very deep process. Yes, his work is always.."Great". But what a price for him!!

Oh my, this is another example of my being lulled into the dullness of it all. I think your post helped to make me fall into the doldrums of apathy! The post was sad. It was tremendously sad. All I could think of was the loss of his last love. The poignancy and sweetness of that pure love. It almost brought tears to my eyes but then I thought; surely she'd want him to be happy. All I could think of when reading your post was…he has to go on….he has to survive! Make the songs music we can sing along with wearing a smile and dancing across the floor! i did love his last CD but it was breaking my heart and made me want to throw myself onto the altar and light candles! Hey, all of this writing may be shaking me out of the doldrums!

Shake it up Marabelle :)
Well truthfully, though it be sad ...it is! If he writes of love which he surely will want to, it will be of their love! So we will share with him and he with his audience of this wonderful woman whom he loved till the end with all his heart! That can never be sad because love is what we breathe and dream of! I imagine he feels fortunate to have shared her life and dreams :)
Cheer up Marabelle, he will be finished soon and it will be on ITunes, possibly, I would think the best way to go....and you will once again be amazed at the magnificent magnitude of Steve's work, love and beautiful voice :)
