I just came across this interview from 1994, promoting FTLOSM.
Really good interview. It's over an hour long, very natural and fun conversation. Steve sounds very relaxed and hyped about the release. Funny, playful banter with all of the listeners. Different than any other interview I've heard from him.
A few things I found interesting:
He sounded very enthusiastic about his solo career. Makes you wonder again what could have been if he stayed on this track instead of reuniting for TBF.
He speaks respectfully of the Journey members, even as he addresses that they were possibly looking for a new singer to replace him. This was back in July of '94, earlier than I realized they were considering a replacement (assuming it was Kevin at this point).
He speaks about his relationship at that moment with Sherrie. Very open and honest.
He brings up that Herbie would tell him 'no profile pics' because of his nose. But he would say 'F that' because it was his nose and nasal/honking sound that helped with his vocal capabilities. I never really thought about that...but that's a good explanation of why his voice was always unique. Nobody has ever really duplicated his sound exactly. This, to me, is a good explanation why.
Anyway, if you'd like to check it out, here it is.
