The Season 3--Coming Nov. 8. ???

Is this legit? I guess we have to wait to see if SP makes an announcement.
Steve Perry's holiday album The Season is re-released as The Season 3 for the 2024 holiday season with six additional tracks. 2LP set on 180g black vinyl.

Maybe he can do a few live shows in the next couple months...he could do a few New Years songs as a bonus.

At least two of these tracks (What a Wonderful World, Call Me Irresponsible) aren't even Christmas tunes. Makes you wonder if SP is compiling a Great American Songbook album for release, like the ones Rod Stewart put out. I always thought Perry's musical instincts were more cutting edge than this.

Those two songs throw me off, too. Was there a Season 2?

A deluxe version was released in 2022 with This Christmas and his original Maybe This Year. I don't recall the album being named Season 2 though.

It's far from cutting edge, but probably just where he feels most comfortable vocally.

One thing I've never been a fan of that he does is piggybacking a couple of updated tracks onto an album that has already been re-released a number of times. It's how the Perry era Journey material has been treated for years now. It's not fair to the fans to buy yet another version of the same material that you've already purchased multiple times. Just put it out as a single.

Perhaps. The 'hardest' rocking son on Traces was "Sun Shines Gray", and I thought he sounded good.

I thought the same. It's a good song, and he performed it well. No need for any vocal straining.

If this proves to be true, while it sounds ridiculous to have basically re-release the same album three times in four years, he seems to do this kind of thing nowadays. His stripped down remix of "Traces" was pretty awesome IIRC so that one made sense to put out. However, a third chance for a niche holiday album that wasn't really well received that much when it was first released? That's pushing it even for him.

An album of No Erasin' style AOR would hit the spot perfectly. I'd A&R the shit out of an album with Steve if given the chance. Trev Lukather could produce.

I found this description of the re-release that says it has a duet with his father. That may be interesting to hear.

"One of the most iconic voices in rock music presents an expanded version of his acclaimed holiday album, The Season. Featuring six additional bonus tracks, Steve Perry beautifully re-imagines holiday classics; including a recently unearthed duet with his late father. It’s a timeless collection of music, produced by Perry and his longtime collaborator Thom Flowers, that you will turn to year after year."

That duet is the grabber. We all want to know what his dad sounded like, and what a bonus that will be with Steve singing along.

There is a bit of a choice here....when did his father die? I mean, is this going to be a teen/pre-teen Steve Perry singing, or is he going to rerecord his vocal? It seems interesting but it also could be a bit of a novelty and not much else.

It's a Wonderful World: I hate to say it, but I don't like hearing him sing slow songs anymore.
Not ready to give up on him yet.
The family pictures on the mantle were nice, though.

Wow. This is where he is creatively. He took a classic song and did a beautiful job with it. I like it a lot.

I am crossing my fingers that This Christmas and Let It Snow will be more joyous.
My hopes for an upbeat duet with his dad are fading. I think it will be melancholy.

This Christmas was released last year. Very soulful.

Hopes that Jingle Bell Rock is somewhat uptempo.

No doubt the song with his dad will be a crooner ballad. If he's taking a recording of his dad, it's probably 60+ years old. Crooner ballad is the style from then, especially with the song selection.

You know, I must have missed out on the Deluxe release. Thanks for the link, but I find that tune depressing, too.
I don't see how he can ruin Jingle Bell Rock, but let's see. :D
Steve did reconnect with his dad in Ray's later years, so it could be newer than 60 years old. It will be interesting to hear.

Didn't know that about his dad. I just assumed it was a recording sample from when his dad was a performer way back in the day. So yeah, it could be anything.

He's definitely being protective of his vocal range. Lest we forget that he had no desire to sing again. This all happened because he made a promise to not isolate again. He's doing it at his comfort level. I understand how it can be too melancholy for those who want to hear more from him. Dealing with grief these past few years myself, I guess I connect with it more than others.

This is the song that I was most curious about. Mr. Ray has a nice voice. I, for some reason, thought it would resemble Steve's. I am looking forward to hearing Steve's story on how he made this. Going down memory road must have been bittersweet, but healing at the same time.

It's nice he made this, but I will probably never listen to this song again. Always a fan, Steve, but I am at the age where I am not going to pretend I like something just because I love the artist.
Will be looking forward to those new songs you have planned and see what direction your music is taking you. :)
