Birthday Message From Steve on Fan Asylum

Postby indigo » Fri Jan 22, 2010 8:04 am

Here it is, folks. Let the sparks fly.

Jan 21, 2010

Oh my, my…I can’t believe another year has flown by faster than the year before. Yes, this year I will come clean and finally tell you that I am turning 57. Or….is it 58? Well….at this age.…denial can be your best friend!!!

It’s been brought to my attention that I’m receiving well wishes for my birthday from many of you. Thank you all so very much! In previous years many of you have made donations to wonderful causes for my birthday on my behalf. For that, I am very grateful.

In light of recent events in Haiti, this year I decided to donate to Oxfam America. Should you feel inclined to do the same, I respectfully request that you click on the logo below and make whatever contribution you feel comfortable with. I am sure that any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Happy 2010 to all of you.

Sincerely,
indigo

Nice to see Steve giving to Oxfam. It's like when he visited the hospitalized vets a few years back, he keeps everything under the radar when it comes to charity and good causes, unlike some celebs who feel the need to receive praise and release a press statement for anything they do.

Keep in mind, this was in response to the birthday wishes he received. We fooled ourselves into believing in some big announcement of an upcoming cd. That will be for another day.

After this happy-B-day thanks and not any mention to his fans and the music world reguarding a new CD is really something that seems to rear its ugly head year after year. It's has come to my attention that at this point, i believe there never will be a CD or anything close to that from Perry.
I have to believe that a so-called talked about CD set to be released in Feb. is nothing more than a hoax just like the last 12 years have proven to be. Maybe my wife is correct when she continues to stress or inform me that the next best thing the world has going today being an active singer is one Adam Lambert, who's vocals and activity are as close to SP as we are gonna get. LOL. At least he's from the USA.

PLEASE don't compare Lambert to Perry... PLEASE for the love of God!!! Perry was untouchable vocal-wise and song writing wise, and Lambert is another Britney Spears wannabe! Talentless hack IMHO. Perry just pisses me off to no end about his non-releasing this fucking album! :x He has more writing and vocal talent than nearly anyone out there, and it just pisses me off as a fan, that he teases releases and doesn't deliver! I'd rather hear "I'm never going to release anything again" then "yeah... I've been writing a lot of new stuff (that you're never going to fucking hear!!!".

FUCK I'm irritated by this right now. He is a dick to his fans. No, he doesn't OWE it to us, but you'd think after the lifestyle that his fans helped him earn with our purchases and support, that he'd at least make public statements about his plans (no matter what they may be).

Perry, I hope your cat scratches the living SHIT out of you for your birthday when you're punching it tonight!

There... tantrum over. I'm going back upstairs now. :?

Jim, i undertand your frustration and trust me i'm as pissed off as you and every1 else who cares about this untouchable man being the greatest vocal singer to ever walk this earth. But i really believe in my heart that he sat around for years and for what ever reason did nothing and wasted his talent and career away.
We don't know if he lost his voice or what the reason was and i seem to not give a dam anymore, iv'e invested too much love for the man to consider any reason. I may be an ass because of how i feel but i saw him and feel i grew up with him and watched him become who he is today. But Jim, i never meant to say Adam Lambert was Steve Perry, no one is but i did say he is a good singer and active to boot. And i do think he has a really good voice.

Sorry, wasn't taking a stab at you at all. I know a LOT of people like Lambert. I'm just not one of them. You're definitely entitled to your own opinions, and I'm sure there are people I like that YOU think suck! :D I just got pissed by reading this, and I think that as of tonight, I've given up all hope. It just really bums me out because there have been insinuations and hints at something being released for a LONG time now. I guess I've just given up tonight officially, and it's time to forget it.

Like you, I grew up hearing Perry. His voice is 1 of a kind, and I don't think we'll EVER hear anyone quite like him. It just frustrates me because I honestly believe that he still has it in him (from what I've heard from a friend of a friend). I've hear 2nd hand that his songs are finished, and that they are incredible. I heard this about a year ago, and I know the source is legit. THAT's what pisses me off! :x

I wasn't mad at you at all. Sorry if I came across like that.

Who knew a birthday thread for Steve Perry could turn so hostile? You all know I love me some Adam Lambert but even I wouldn’t go as far as to compare him to Steve Perry vocally. That’s a little generous at this stage in his career.

On the other hand, to lump Lambert in with Britney Spears is an OUCH in the other direction. Jimbo, have you even listened to Lambert’s CD? I’m amazing both musically & lyrically. It’s nothing at all like that bubblegum music loving, firecrotch Britney Spears.

As for Steve, he'll be back this year. That, I'm sure of. I'm thinking either on American Idol or Glee or both. 8)

:(

...am I the only person who was somewhat...well,...underwhelmed by this statement?

::LOON RANT ALERT::

Okay, so we basically just waited two years for the great "Birthday Statement", and along with the usual plug for charity (which is really very nice, and thoughtful) he basically just tells us he's too fargin' old to remember how fargin' old he is?!?! Seriously? That's IT?!?! I can tell you exactly how old you are, Mr. Kittens. All ya gotta do is ask. Seriously, enough already.

(and yeah, that's right, I said fargin', gosh darn it, and I meant it, too).

/End Loon Rant... (sorry, it slipped)

Jim and everyone i'm sorry if i pissed you all off by saying all this but again this really has done it for me. Perry probably never intended to sing again at least for the public or a CD. And again, anyone who has ever read my stuff can see how much i love him and i'm not even gay but rather a 50-year old man who knows whats great and whats average including legacy or whatever.
Perry has pissed me off with no statement and i feel i need to stop hopeing for the day i can tell everone who has shit one my face when iv'e told them how great and that he's going to release something soon. But Jim Adam Lambert is really good and 27 years old and even room to improve. He's really all i like now days because with me it's always been Perry or nothing. But Perry is now 61 years old and it's time we all come to grips that he's not ever going to be active again.

He's never written a song worth a fuck without Jonathan Cain holding his hand. Hell, he had about 40 co-writers on that last shitty solo album he released. He's an artistically bankrupt "has been." Like Herbie said, he just likes to spark interest with his "Remember me?!?!? bullshit every now and then.

Not at all! I told you I wasn't aiming that at you, and I'm not upset with you at all! I just don't like Lambert. He doesn't write or co-write his own songs, and I just don't respect singers who can't even write (or co-write) their own material! I also think it was trashy as hell to kiss male band members in front of the country on national television. To each their own though... I just won't buy one of his cd's.

Saint John, SP could flat out in basketball terms (TAKE IT TO THE PAINT) as far as a world-wide figure. There has never ever been a singer who gave me goosebumps and never will be. And i know you always crap on his so-called writing ability but really man think about it, if he was good at writing, he would not have been a vocal-God. No one has both, NO ONE THAT GREAT. If Steve Perry, the greatest singer possibly ever was a song writer, he would have not become what he turned out to be. So quit crapping on him.
And i'm going to tell you all that i'm 50 and got married last Dec. 1st for the first time ever, and my wife who is 37 had never heard of Steve Perry. She LOVES Clay Aiken and now LOVES Adam Lambert. So for 2 years iv'e been telling her Perry is coming out with a new CD. She says he's old and washed up and i need to move on to an active singer. Now I have a ligit reason to be PISSED at Perry.

Jim, you know I like you & so I'm really not trying to give you a hard time here, but you're doggin' on my man Adam & so I got to say my piece. Adam co-wrote 4 songs off his recent CD: "Strut," "Pick U Up," "Broken Open" & "Aftermath." I'm right there with ya on the kissing thing, Jim. Artistically, however, I think you're expecting quite a lot from a 27 year old man who just one year ago was nervously sitting in a waiting room with a bunch of other people, wearing the number 1877 attached to his chest & hoping that once he got the chance to walk through those double doors that Simon, Paula, Randy & Kara were going to give him a golden ticket to American Idol.

Journey361, I'm liking you more & more each day. :D

Jason, i agree with you 100 percent and i think Adam Lambert is going to be the best AI will ever have as a vocal SINGER then and a vocal SINGER in the future to come. He's really a great story and i really like him as a person and a singer. I could care less if he's gay but leave that gay rights show-bizz stuff off your shows and listen to Madonna and Rodman, LOL.
