Cool. I hope I can find it. I think it's gonna be tough to top 1981 Houston, but I will know for sure once I see this. Mr. Perry himself remasterd Houston, from what I understand.

This show has been floating around on Amazon UK as an unofficially released disc. Most people here have the outstanding boot disc from Dime and Jamtothis which was remastered so well, it could almost pass as an official release.

If you've seen the MTV video of DSB from Japan, this is that show. Perry flubs the lyrics in Keep On Running and and screws up the verses in Stone In Love but the show is still great. I believe it's the second or third show at the start of the tour so Perry's voice is stellar.

Here is the disc I am talking about, about 13 dollars on Amazon UK. unfortunately, it seems to be of worse quality than the boot that is out there on torrent.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Journey-Live-To ... 97&sr=8-31

"Where Were You," "Line Of Fire," "Don't Stop Believing," "Stone In Love," "Keep On Runnin'," "Guitar Interlude," "Who's Crying Now," "Lay It Down," "Piano Solo," "Dead Or Alive "Turn Around In Tokyo," "Lights," "Stay Awhile," "Too Late," "Dixie Highway," "Lovin' You Is Easy," "Guitar Solo," "La Do Da," "Drum Solo," "The Party's Over (Hopelessly In Love)," "Wheel In The Sky," "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," and "Any Way You Want It."

Hopefully, the disc this article is talking about is an official disc from Sony.

Go to Dime, Jamtothis or Demonoid.

I don't see the disc on Amazon Japan or CDJapan, so I'm not to sure if there is really is an official release. If I remember right, Journey didn't play Budokan until 83, so there is a problem with the disc summary on the article already.

This DVD release presents the gig of the most thriving JOURNEY lineup ever in Japan circa 1981. Early embarking on their Escape Tour, the multiplatinum American rockers performed at the Koseinenken hall, Tokyo in July 31th of that year. Bearing in mind it’s 28 whole years we’re talkin’ about, it’s essential to accept this DVD shoot only if the word ’vintage’ sends shivers down your spine. JOURNEY – mistakenly considered by many as solely an AOR band – prove onstage what it took (back then) to sweat onstage providing crowds with triumphant Rock boasting mid-pace melodies, power ballads and party rock-n-roll sounds.

The footage is professionally filmed by – so it seems – the Japanese TV. The various camera angles, some traditional but up-to-the-standards sound and the non-stop energy of JOURNEY (class A musicians!) is the deal here and fans of the band surely have to add this historic piece in their collection. With 100 minutes of live action and more than 20 cuts, the gang of Neal Schon and Steve Perry takes no prisoners and from the first notes of "Where Were You" and "Line Of Fire" to the encore duo of "Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin" and "Anyway You Want It" we can witness a series of glorious tracks providing something more than a good time for the Japanese spectators...and now you, the ’digital’ watcher. Really, not much to comment on the music/performance.

Some drawbacks sum it up to the complete absence of something else than the concert itself; no bonus anything, not even a 2-page info inner sheet. Plus: have witnessed it in some other 70s/80s Japanese concerts too, transferred to DVD, and is rather awkward to see nearly no single moment of the crowd/venue captured throughout the whole show (not even some band-crowd interaction in between the songs). Only three or four ’snap’ takes are featured in the encore part. Really weird...

Being pretty sure this release is not officially approved by the band’s management, let’s quote "Live In Tokyo" DVD is a needed addition if you consider yourself to be a JOURNEY core fan. Just repeating/reminding 28 years have passed since that evening, and not forgetting the clan is back in action nearly 35 whole years after its initial formation by the ex-SANTANA guitar extraordinaire, let’s say "Live In Tokyo" DVD will deliver some nostalgia lessons.

I have this show. In my opinion, it is a superb performance! I don't know about this particular release, but the one I have is awesome!

If the disc that is being sold doesn't list Sony or Legacy on it, skip the purchase and just download the remastered boot.

The only one who can give you those shows are Sony, they own the videos and need permission from the band to actually release them. I don't see Frig and Fro wanting to let those discs get out there now that they have their youtube sensation fronting the band.

Sony filmed this particular one for promotional purposes, That's how the DSB video ended up on MTV. I'm not sure how the band can own it if they didn't pay for the filming. I think Journey can block its release but on the other hand the band can't release it on their own without buying the rights from Sony.

I'll second that one lights.

Also, BJG, I never said it was better than Houston, I just said it was awesome. I agree with you, Houston is better overall, but remember, that one has been remastered. This one is a boot. I stand by my words. (Barring Houston 80, that is) :D

I agree, they have enough trouble these days with everyone and their brother contacting Perry for interviews for most anything Journey (ie: DSB) which is what has made them popular again at all. I bet Neal and Co. isn't happy about that either.

You have to be kidding. Neal does plenty of interviews, when he's not too busy on the road, which is a great portion of the time, instead of retired at home with the cats. You just don't notice the Neal interviews, and even a few Jonathan interviews. But I doubt Neal is unhappy about Perry promoting their music. It's songs they did together and make money off of,and if Perry is giving an interview on the song, cha-ching, more are sold, more money in Neal's pocket. It's all good.

My point here is, Journey is promoting a DVD that is WAL-MART exclusive. Having two more DVDs out there that can be purchased everywhere is Great for Neal and Jon but not for the rest of the current band. Look at Revelation, it isn't on the charts but the Greatest Hits are, and it's making money for Sony not Nomota. When it comes to the DVDs, why give permission to your old record label to release something that could cannibalize sales from your current product?
