So who has given up?

Postby bionic » Sat Apr 24, 2010 11:21 pm

For some years now i have lived in hope of Mr.Perry recording or just maybe touring in some capacity,i know many others have as well.
We have hoped the Sony rumours of a new release would come true, or that Steve had vocal surgery so he could sing again..another rumour.
Well you know what folks i've given up hope and accepted its over, i wonder how many other of the faithfull have also?

Eh, I remain neutral here. As in, I'm not jumping up and down with excitement over something that just might not happen, but I'm not uber-pessimistic about it either.

My view is, if he releases something, he releases something. Cool. If he doesn't, he doesn't. Oh well. I don't get worked up or upset either way.

He probably still could do something (at some lower vocal level but good enough to open ears) if he put his mind and body to the task. That would mean getting in shape, both physically and vocally and not to forget, he would have to focus his mind at the task at hand. But the thought of it is way too much work and it's harder at his age to begin with. Many times, he's weighed all the pros against cons and we now are understanding the outcome to the decision he has made. Perry may very well be a once great singer with THE most pleasant and talented voice ever to just up and quit. There are always arguments, but vocally i can't think of any others who did this in this fashion with a gift or talent like he had. Thats called unmattached.

I dont post very often, but I do read the forum alot.
Personaly I would love to hear Perry sing again, but time just moves forward. I think that unless its this year, yeah, he's done.
Far and away, IMO Perry was the greatest Rock singer, ever

I have not given up on Steve Perry releasing new or covered material, because I believe he has been recording in his home studio for decades and has a vault load of it - including the years his voice was in its prime. He has probably done a rendition of every Sam Cooke song in existence among others! Whether or not he will perform in public again - well, I certainly hope so, and I haven't given up, but I'm placing better odds on me winning the lottery right now. If Steve Perry does sing for us again, that will be like winning the lottery if I get to be there!

Given up what?

IMHO, Perry doesn't owe us a damn thing.

He has given us really great music and a big part of his life.

The rest of it is his.

Anything he decides to share with us now is just icing on the cake.

..... and I get to lick it off ----- sorry - got carried away there for a minute.

I'm not sure I've given up on him, but he sure gave up on us in 1996. Bullshit stories, stalling, more bullshit stories, lawyers, settlements, gag orders. What a coward.

Does Perry owe us anything? If he would just keep his damn mouth shut no he does not owe us anything. However he refuses to do so. He owes us going out gracefully. He has given more than his fair share of memories to all of us. Stop with the so called recording sessions, and the comments, and the writing sessions. When you give interviews only talk about the past and blow off any talk of the future unless you plan on following through.

I spoke with a writer who wrote a handful of songs with him a few years back and blogged about it. Then the blog was edited to omit that section. He said that all writing sessions are with the understanding that the songs are not to be used w/o Perry's permission and that he would prefer to keep them private. So there is the potential that all this great music is out there sitting on a shelf. At least let someone record these songs.

To me, "DRECKitude" is doing something - be it modeling, singing, etc. - KNOWING what COULD happen when THE PROs do it....
 ...and when you see / hear somebody try to attempt that greatness, they cannot achieve it.....and fall waaaaaaaaay short.

Did your contact say anything at all about the state of SP's voice during those writing sessions?

Just curious.

Meh, who gives a crap it is an amazing dvd and live album?
78 is merely pointing something out.

I'm guilty of bashing p (I believe righteously) and rockheadedly and wrongly accused of cheerleading for the band but allow me to impart this:

Absent the third lead singer of Journey's initiative I don't feel that we would have that show in state of the art digital sound and video right now, I mean look what the hell he did with that concert.

The release is first class.

I appreciate it, and based on sales so did we fans.

My point exactly. Lots of effort went into that production and I haven't read one bad critique from the fans about it. Yeah, it's not new material, but it's the perfect showcase of what he and the band did together at the height of their career.

I never think about whether he will reappear with an album or tour. Last time I did was last year for a while when it seemed likely. Now, to me, not. But if it happens, a nice surprise, but otherwise don't care anymore.
