I'm glad I'm not the only one who only heard Jeff in these clips. They've never sounded alike to me.

I actually thought it was Northern Kings or something new from Brother FireTribe. I didn't even think of Jeff until Cyndy! mentioned it.

I am not even a casual fan of JSS, but it was unmistakably NOT SP in those clips...I think we are all in serious need of his upcoming release. lol

I think the range was very similar to SP of that era, but I could tell it wasn't SP unless he found a doctor to make him sound 30 years "younger." Even great older singers who prove they still have it every year (DDY, Glenn Hughes, Robert Lamm) all sound much "older," even if the range/control is still there, you can just hear the age in their voice. It's hard to explain I guess... but for me, I can hear age in most guys voices, even those who have aged gracefully.

What? JSS totally has a FTLOSM sound in that first clip...especially on the word "try". That's probably the first time I have heard Jeff sound Perryesque.

Neal pays attention. When tape gate hit and this place showed up on Rolling Stone's blog, he noticed big time. Doesn't matter the name of the forum, actually this one will be watched even more so as it now contains loons which are not exactly Pro-Neal all the time.

Not just the one word but I think that Andrew obviously posted just that small clip because Jeff did sound similiar to SP in the later years. On JSS's CD "Beautiful Mess" there is one song where he sounds like he is channeling Seal - I just think it is cool as I love both SP & Seal. Jeff definitely has his own sound but it's neat just the same when his voice can do that.
I remember when I first re-discovered Journey/SP in '04 and kept reading about SP channeling Sam Cooke. I just didn't get it...until one night while driving, I had the radio on low and I thought I heard SP's voice so I turned it up. It was Sam Cooke! The same thing happened when I heard a Seal song (again on low) that I had never heard before come on the radio and I thought it was SP. I don't know what it is...the tenor? the emotion? or what but it is just something, one little segment, that connects them all. I also hear it in a tiny part of "Sunshower" when AP can sound like Augeri?!

Okay, maybe because I came to the link via a JSS Promotions email, I thought "DAMN - this is great; Jeff sounds fantastic (as usual)".

Then I look at the top and see "Steve Perry".

I nearly have an absolute, total don't-do-CPR-on-me cardiac arrest.

All the while thinking "Holy s***, Steve sounds like JEFF!"

Which means it all boils down to you, Drew, being a little stinker.

And it sounds absolutely fantastic and I can't WAIT for the rest! :D

Andrew... I've got to stop you right there just to say that while I love Jeff's voice on the W.E.T. stuff, AND Talisman... He does NOT sound anything like Steve Perry. He ALSO sounds nothing like Freddy Mercury! I don't get why people think this, and I know you've got a good enough musical ear to hear the difference! If you're just saying that he sounded GOOD on those, then I apologize, but I get the impression you're saying he sounds (or sounded) like Perry. He sounds like neither... Just saying!

Jeff has his own style and presentation, absolutely. But he CAN sound just like SP and I've got the proof.

As for FM, I agree there is more a difference there - but JSS suits Queen better than Journey cause he has the same stage presence and commanding rock/soul vocal that FM had.

I want to HEAR the proof! Again, I don't want anyone to think I'm knocking Jeff, because I'm not at ALL. I just don't hear the Perryisms that you do. I saw him twice with Journey live (the first one was during his second gig with them), and I've seen pretty much every clip on youtube with his name on it. Unless there's some other stuff that you can't post or comment on... I'll just have to disagree. I normally agree with just about every other thing you post about musically... just not about this.

I also don't think he'd be good foor Queen. If they chose ANYONE... I'd like to see them with GM. That's just my personal opinion, but I think he's the closest that we have to FM. Just saying!

Oh mate....seriously. That guy has no presence whatsoever. Cleaver pop composer, but never a rock n roller. Queen = JSS :)

Will send you some audio proof via e-mail...

I cannot believe it has been two years - I really have been gone a long time, as Wyatt was just a few months old when I was last hanging around!

Someone should send an addy/DM for those who might like to commemorate Wyatt's birthday with, oh, I don't know....something! : D

But I promise it won't be a Kasey Kahne shirt - I remember that was NOT his driver.....
