The man was just amazing in his ability to be able to phrase a lyric.
He was even greater in his ability to be able to emote a lyric
Once again, if I was able to speak to Steve Perry. I would simply tell him that alot of people would love to hear him.
If he cant hit all of the crazy high notes.... well, people really don't care.
I dont know about what Herbie said about his lack of contact , or eye contact with an audience... I think he is wrong.
Steve Perry has
stage presence.
There are few.... a VERY few that have that.
He just
'has it' Here is proof... a beautiful lyric, a perfect voice and a stage presence that no one can deny.
Not if they are a fan of Journey.

Just saw this video again .... Steve Perry and David Pack doing ' A brand new Start' from just a few years ago.
If this any indication of his vocal abiilty, he still ' has it'
. I was looking at the comments and to me, this was the most interesting...
"Timothy B. Schmit (good solid bass player too)
All three are great singers...but man oh man....Perry!!!! Singing backup..staying confined in the role..but you can tell if he wanted to let her rip...it would be no problem!!!"
Again, when it comes to vocal talent, Steve Perry is in a league of his own.
If Steve Perry sounds even close to this today, he would own the Adult Market.Steve Perry is in a rare situation.
He would hold the Adult Contemporary Music field in his grasp even though no one would expect high end 1980s Journey vocals.
An example would be Elton John.
People young and old flock to see him, but no one expects to hear the high notes of ' Tiny Dancer' coming from him anymore.
And I'm sure Steve Perry could still deliever some amazing vocals.
Dude, people want to hear you
