You guys are making me glad I never joined that site! I guess my first instincts were good. Seemed to be too secretive, possessive, and odd for me.

The only thing that intrigues me is the whole Deano is my Hero thing.........now that is funny! First he owns an island at MR, now he is the Hero of the defunct PV site...........I can just see it now...........loons laying fern leaves at his feet............trumpets blowing at his arrival on the site.................Steve Perry who? LOL!

O.K. Just to add this before I go to work............I am not trying to disrespect our loveable Deano. I just don't get calling him conquoring hero. I like Lora and Cyndy very much. They gave us some great times with Journey force, Spin, etc......all that Fan Asylum was and is. But I would not call them heros. A man who runs into a burning building to save a baby........this is a hero. I still have respect for all the above mentioned folks.........but it is respect, not hero worship. I am just curious to no end what made you choose those words for Deano. Maybe it was something great I never knew about the man. But let me in on this picture! :D

Yes we will take new members. My website is http://fortheloveofsteveperry.com and my forum is http://ldyintn.proboards.com/index.cgi I am the owner of both sites. But there is a public forum attached to the website that you don't have to register for. Just anyone can post on it. :D

I'm hoping that all of these accusations are unfounded. I remember when Kathy and the girls broke away from an unofficial Perry site and started Perryville. There was one time when it was a lot of fun and the very best that was offered as a Perry site. It's hard to believe that something so good could go so wrong. I hope there is an explanation.

Well, after everything that has been said in this thread I'm betting it'll be harder for her or anyone else to talk anyone into donating anything anymore! I know I sure as hell won't ever donate through a site I don't care if they are claiming they are donating in the name of a rock star or not. I say if you have to pay, run far away from them. There are way too many FREE tribute sites and forums to choose from.

Like you I too once wanted to believe. Sadly there is an explanation, and it involves the darker side of human nature. Face it, there are just some bad people out here. Fortunately there are more good ones than bad ones.

Not all site owners/administrators who ask for donations are thieves. I've participated in at least two that were completely legit. We didn't wave it in the air saying NOTICE US!!!!!!!!!. If you chose to participate, cool. If not, cool. Charity is supposed to be voluntary by its nature.

However, when it is Mandatory?.. run. And maybe yell while running.

With that in mind, what was the minimum 'donation' PV members were asked to pay? Was it monthly? Yearly? and how many members? That should give us an idea how much was allegedly stolen at a minimum.

When I made my last statement I wasn't talking about donating like to this site Andrew.... I donated to this site because I really like it here and I know you put in your heart and soul on this place. That's totally different.

Deano was greeted like a hero at PV because he played a key role in bringing the hated Augeri era of the band to an end. If you need to know more just Google "Journey" and "tapegate" or "lip-synch" and you can catch up on the whole saga. Most people here are pretty talked out on the subject...

Journey's "Tape Gate" A Hoax
Current mood: optimistic

Many Journey fans Worldwide are familiar with the controversial "Tape Gate" Conspiracy that spread over the internet throughout last year's 2006 Tour with Def Leppard. The allegation that Journey was using backing tracks, while vocalist Steve Augeri was singing into a dead microphone, originated on the popular Melodicrock.com's Journey Forums and eventually spread throughout the online Journey Fan Community and even were picked up by a few mainstream media outlets. When Journey's longtime vocalist, Steve Augeri, eventually had to step down due to a chronic throat ailment, the allegations took on an air of truth, seeming to support the assertions of the attention-crazed Conspiracy Theorist.

The allegations spread like wildfire throughout the Tour and the few that didn't ascribe to the so-called facts that were being ceremoniously shoved down their throats by this self-absorbed individual, were ganged up on and shut down by a cult-like group of cyber-bullies at the above named Forums, that continue to follow the originator of these claims as if he were the Messiah. Things came to a crescendo when it was finally announced, in December of 2006, that Jeff Scott Soto was replacing Steve Augeri as Journey's Lead Singer.

Throughout the Tour and into the first few months of 2007, the band and Management have said little to nothing to quell these rumors and up till now, many believe "Tape Gate" to be a reality. Journey founding member and Lead Guitarist Neal Schon touched on the issue during a recent online interview, but didn't definatively address it in a way that would shutdown the controversy. However, fellow founding member and longtime Journey bass player Ross Valory was more direct in denouncing the allegations and the individual that made them, by making the following comments during an interview with getreadytorock.com.

http://www.getreadytorock.com/rock_stars/journey.htm

(There were reports in the press and on the internet that Journey used backing tapes on the Leppard tour?

This is another urban myth! It just didn't happen. The rumour got prominence because we were changing singers - Steve Augieri's voice did give out. It's a very difficult setlist. Not even Steve Perry could hold up very long, I believe, because these songs are very demanding of any singer.

Right now there's another rumour circulating that the drummer with Soul SirkUS, Virgil Donati, is rehearsing for a tour with a major artist - yet to be announced. The fans think he's going to replace Deen Castronovo.

Another rumour: Ross Valory is going to retire! It's very interesting that no-one told me. But this is how the story goes?

It turns out the person who stirred up the tape issue is not a journalist and didn't have the correct information. It appears to me some people have too much time on their hands, sometimes fans can be over-obsessed with the band of their dreams and they can get to be too imaginative or creative in order to provoke a response. It's like they're clutching at straws, and even inventing those straws! I don't, of course, wish to disparage the bulk of our fans.)

My Commentary

Now, I have no doubt I will be attacked unmercifully by the originator of these claims and his followers and that some will always believe a good Conspiracy Theory, but the fact is that unlike the Milli Vanilli lip-synching incident of the 90's, Journey's "Tape Gate" is nothing but a fictional tale made up by an individual that is looking for and getting attention and approval from his peers. It is a hoax and deserves to be buried alongside other similar legendary hoaxes that have been perpetrated on the masses.

I just want to say that although I disagree with the fact that Melodicrock.com allowed itself to be used in such a way by this pseudo-journalist and Jim Jones wannabe, I do not blame it's owner for the allegations. The only one's responsible are the originator of the claims and those that were and are so willing to be followers. They were duped by an over the top, angry, self-serving and loathesome individual that preys on such people in an attempt to somehow validate an otherwise dull and unexciting existence.

Some may think my commentary on this individual is harsh, however I disagree. This person had no problem in attacking the character and careers of the individuals he made these baseless and in my opinion, defamatory allegations against, as well as the many good people that disagreed with his assertions.

All of the above was to feed this person's overblown ego, so that he could, in his own mind, take down a man that had done nothing to him personally, but rather in his own mind, didn't belong fronting the band Journey. This individual now goes around claiming that he personally brought down the career of Steve Augeri...that somehow his little smear campaign forced the band's hand and now Journey is the band he wants it to be. Sad when you really think about it.

Well apparently I have been under a huge bolder! I kinda took a break from Journey during the SA and JSS eras, though I did go to one of the concerts with SA singing, or should I say lip synched. I'm just trying to get the facts straight.

Deano was greeted like a hero at PV because he played a key role in bringing the hated Augeri era of the band to an end. If you need to know more just Google "Journey" and "tapegate" or "lip-synch" and you can catch up on the whole saga. Most people here are pretty talked out on the subject...

As much as I respect Deano here, that is over kill. Hero? Because of tapegate? I guess we look at the word differently.  Sure Deano is appreciating it though! :D Deano my Hero!  I like you better as the island master.............

It was through FourmCo, which I used to have a board up with the same company, and there never was a fee for the forum. It was free. Since I have the website up now, and there is a monthly fee for hosting plus an annual domain fee, but I would never charge anyone to come to my site or join my forum. I do have a new SP forum up now, but it's free as well. I know Kathy would contact me and say I was stealing her shit and putting it on my site and I was using it to make my videos. But it's like I told her, my images comes from the internet for the most part and I get alot of pictures given to me to use on my site by fans. If anyone submits a pic to my site, they get credit for it. And I try to not post marked photos and if I do I give credit where credit is due. It's only fair. The last time Kathy contacted me she wanted to know why I did not have PV listed in my link page. I simply told her I did not want to be associated with her site, not because she was stealing or anything like that, I just didn't like her as a person. She tried to tell me that my site would never amount to anything, well, my site is doing very well thank you and look where she is right now! So I guess I had the last laugh in that one.

Are you still accepting new members? Would you be averse to accepting a PV refugee for example? :)

Yes we will take new members. My website is http://fortheloveofsteveperry.com and my forum is http://ldyintn.proboards.com/index.cgi I am the owner of both sites. But there is a public forum attached to the website that you don't have to register for. Just anyone can post on it. :D

Its good to see that ole fashioned love for Mr.Perry....I, too share that passion. For I too believe the sun rises and sets around his face. But please keep the arnel stuff to a minimum.

Dude, you are really starting to sound whiny! Arnel is the lead singer for Journey and this is the Journey forum. Get over it already.

Bells!!! :P
