Well it does not help that the only Journey songs that are ever played on the radio are sung by Perry.....even when they are on
tour. That must burn Neal's ass!

Perry = Journey...always has been, it's just the way it is. 8)

Why would it? Hardly any of the 70s, 80s Bands new music gets played, at least not for long. Lame argument. Also, please note, I wasn't bashing Perry, just expressing some disappointment. You guys always have to start on Neal.

And hey journey361 learn how to spell the guy's name. Good grief!

Ya mean NEAL?????

I did not say you were bashing Perry......I know you and Dan are the closet Loons of this happy little
family! :P

No, Dan and I are the balanced members of this happy little family.

You, yes. But the words Dan and balanced don't even belong in the same sentence.

Honestly, I gave up after Trial By Fire. I will always enjoy his body of work.

Once again, if I was able to speak to Steve Perry. I would simply tell him that alot of people would love to hear him.
If he cant hit all of the crazy high notes.... well, people really don't care.
I dont know about what Herbie said about his lack of contact , or eye contact with an audience... I think he is wrong.

Steve Perry has stage presence.

There are few.... a VERY few that have that.

He just 'has it'

Here is proof... a beautiful lyric, a perfect voice and a stage presence that no one can deny.

Not if they are a fan of Journey.

Just saw this video again .... Steve Perry and David Pack doing ' A brand new Start' from just a few years ago.
If this any indication of his vocal abiilty, he still ' has it'
. I was looking at the comments and to me, this was the most interesting...

"Timothy B. Schmit (good solid bass player too) :-)

All three are great singers...but man oh man....Perry!!!! Singing backup..staying confined in the role..but you can tell if he wanted to let her rip...it would be no problem!!!"

Again, when it comes to vocal talent, Steve Perry is in a league of his own.

If Steve Perry sounds even close to this today, he would own the Adult Market.Steve Perry is in a rare situation.
He would hold the Adult Contemporary Music field in his grasp even though no one would expect high end 1980s Journey vocals.

An example would be Elton John.
People young and old flock to see him, but no one expects to hear the high notes of ' Tiny Dancer' coming from him anymore.
And I'm sure Steve Perry could still deliever some amazing vocals.
Dude, people want to hear you

Yesterday I saw an old man wearing a green shirt with white bold letters that said, "I BELIEVE IN STEVE"...probably for Steve Jobs, but still. :D lol.
(okay, not sure if SP will ever release any music again, but I still "believe in him"...still get a thrill every time his voice comes on the radio.)

For all you people who still believe, i think i can help you out. A friend of mine who lives in neighboring San Diego was at a Wall-Mart store standing in line to pay and up front about 4 people from him was none other than Steve Perry who was talking to some 4 people in another line who were thanking him for his body of work through the years.

As Perry reached for his billfold to pay for his stuff, he droped his credit card on the floor and bent over to pick it up when everyone noticed he had a fork sticking out of his back. Needless to say, no one bothered to ask if he was thinking of recording again.

Alright.... I'm having a hard time with this visual....
Steve Perry is in Wally World, with a fork sticking out of his back.... you mean to say that the fork was stuck in his back...like he was walking in wal mart with a fork stuck IN his back???
Did someone call 911??
Sorry, I'm not buying that one

Do you mean to say that "He's done?"

I think time will tell.

We will just have to wait and see what happens.

There is so much more to hope for, and I will never give up!

Oh... its meant as 'stick a fork in me,I'm done'
I was taking it literaly...lol
Perry could indeed be done.
I think that if he dosent record in 2010, he very well might be, and if so, its all on his terms of course.
I say that only because DSB is very much in the public eye and it just seems as if now would be the moment.
Thats just my take on it

I do think though that it would be a shame not to hear him sing again...
I mean, I realize (of course) thats its his choice, his terms and of course, his decision and his life.
No one can make you do something you simply do not want to do.

When I say 'its a shame', I mean it in terms of not hearing his vocal talent. Having said that....
'Fame' can be a cruel taskmaster, some folks can handle it, and some folks can handle it up to a point...and then they have to STOP.
If they dont stop, sometimes the results end up being tragic.
Maybe when a person feels the real need to stop, they then heal from whatever inner problems all that fame brought them, and they become very happy living a much more 'normal' life, and even if a part of them wants to 'go back' to what they once were, the 'normal life' they now have says' nooooo...' I'm very happy in the place I now am in'

In short, Steve Perry knows what is best for him, what he can handle and what he cant, because he knows how destructive the fame monstor can become.

Robert Plant's voice has been toast for the last 15 years. What did he do last year? Toured without singing any Led Zeppelin songs. How was he rewarded? With a Grammy Award. If you love doing something enough, you don't just quit on it.

As far as the inner demons and personal tragedies, Plant lost a son and a bandmate during the course of his career. Do you let fate beat you down, or do you show that you're made of sterner stuff? Robert, Eric Clapton, Def Leppard all seem to have done the latter and came out none the worse for it.

That's because in your mind 20 is a retiring age. No one can do anything after a certain age. I have a friend who is 86 and she can do more than most lazy 20 year olds. You can sing till you die. Gee good thing BB King never listens to pre schoolers.

Yeah dude, don't laugh too hard. Jagger, Daltrey, Tyler and Springsteen are all over 60 and still going strong. Perry has less on his engine than they do. All he needs to do is get into singing shape...the voice never goes away.
