There IS a difference between appreciation of the man and his music and obsession. Some Loons don't seem to know where and when to draw the line.

How right you are Jub. I'm kind of expecting to come to the Perry forum one day and be asked to do the special knock or the secret handshake, then be asked a series of questions about SPs personal life just be be able to enter the forum.

That forum recently closed down, I heard.
You had to drink the really speacial kool-aid to get in.

But thankfully MR isn't like that and even we who don't hide in his yard behind his trees can enter and post too. Yay!

I did not address my remark to anyone it particular, did I? Someone chose to respond so maybe it hit a nerve? I really was thinking more of a guy on the Journey forum; however, if the shoe fits, etc.

Not sure what you mean by that last part. My life and internet experience are filled with positive, good natured people. I've plenty of internet experience without sarcasm. The "I am who I hang with" thing. Perhaps that's why I don't understand sarcasm -- I don't have people in my life that use it, either live or internet.

Hence why I rarely post here at MR -- It doesn't match me. It's informative, but that's about it. Same reason why I won't be part of the Annex or like-minded forums. I'm just not into bashing. I don't find it entertaining in any way shape or form. It just comes across as childish and unneccesary to me.

Back to lurking mode. Nudge me when Perry releases something, eh?

I'm a fan of the music, and I was posting on that thread because I was making fun and joking around - which is 90% of what I do here - joke around, the same way T-bone was poking fun by posting that topic in the first place.

I am nowhere near what some people are, googling his name every day just to find any mention of his name. There is being a fan of the music and the talent, and then there is a scary level of obsessive, such as creating a twitter account and instead of using your own name, using his, and emailing anyone he might have ever met asking questions about him.

I didn't realize that you were monitoring what other MR members are doing, but that seems to me to be on the "scary level of obsessive"

I felt the need to comment earlier because you generally seem to be sitting on some kind of bench with a black robe giving out judgments to others who post here and I think it should stop.

This IS a Perry forum and people who come here like to talk about Perry, and like to look at pictures of Perry, and want to learn about Perry, and frankly don't need to be challenged about
what you think is appropriate behavior or not.

There are at least 20 accounts on twitter with the name Steve Perry. It provides the key words for other Perry fans to find each other. Not unlike having a Perry forum at MR that is entitled Steve Perry.
I assume you must feel the same about fans who create Perry websites if you are all in a dither about a twitter Perry account. Think about the level of work that goes into creating and monitoring a Perry website. Is that obsessive behavior? What about fans who write books about Steve Perry?

Give us your judgment Oh thou wise Perryite on what is appropriate and what isn't so that we might all conform to your standards.

She recognises the difference between a fan of the music and the man who made it and someone who is a little too obsessed with the man, forgetting in the process that he's a human being with the same need as all the rest of us to a little privacy and respect for personal space from strangers. I agree with her; some people take it too far; I shudder to think how I would feel if I knew total strangers to me had copies of my birth certificate, found out where I live and what properties I own, if people I don't know from Adam thought it was ok to take photos of me without my knowledge and then posted it all over the web, felt it was ok to send twitters about where I am and what I'm doing.

Take the 'Steve Perry Famous Singer' out of the equation and insert yourself into that situation. It's pretty uncomfortable when you think about it. I totally understand BJG saying she doesn't want to be lumped in with people who feel it's ok to do that just because he's famous; I feel the same way. Doesn't mean I'm not curious about him, or that I don't have loony tendancies, just that I recognise there's a line that I shouldn't cross, tempted as I am sometimes. Sometimes we all need a reminder that SP isn't some public property we have rights to, he's a person, and a very private one at that.

For myself, I'll take the loon title, because I recognise my interest in SP goes beyond just being a fan of the music. But I'll also say that as a fan of the man as well as the music, I'll keep asking myself 'is this something I'd be ok with if it was being done to me?' Because surely being a dedicated fan means respecting SP's life more than my own curiousity.

Ok, fair point, but like I said, I think you and everyone else is taking this far too seriously; perhaps it would be accurate to say taking it far too personally. I empathise with BJG's distaste for being labelled something she isn't, and I also think that you, and some others, tend to jump to the defensive when nothing was directed at you personally. Something we all do, I guess.
