Especially Summer of Luv. Amazing that album didn't get released.

Go Away is my favorite mid-tempo thing that he's done.

I like so many, hard to pick a favorite, but I always feel so much when he sings I AM

"Lost in a World of Emptiness"
"Eyes in the darkness they cry, tears are forever"

I Am is a good example of how he sings with passion and how he connects with the listener.

I love Can't Stop (one of those playful songs).

Of Course, Missing You - about Sherrie. Breaks my heart for him to have lost that love.

I think my favorite ballad is Don't Be Down On Me Baby. Great song by the whole band.

What's cool is that the last thing we heard him on, I Stand Alone, is one of his best mid-tempo/ballad performances. I know the song was from a movie, but it almost sounds like it's him saying to the rest of the band, "After all this garbage we just went through, I'll stand alone since you fractured the stone".

Don't have any idea about what the stuff he's been recording is like, but the man is definetely a story teller in his writing.
I found it very interesting that "I Stand Alone" came out just after the divorce. I think that is totally what it portrays, and he seems to fit well with the character in that movie on certainthings.

He gets so emotional on that song because I think he's feeling every ounce of pain, in each word. Absolutely unreal, that man is.

He is very good at conveying his feelings in the lyrics of the music. Every Journey/Perry song I have ever heard, (except La do da. I don't get that song and if someone would care to explain it to me that would be great.) I can figure what the song is about just by listening. For me, when he is singing, he is telling me what happened and his voice is so full of emotion, that I feel it too. As for the raspy in his voice, I love it. Its sexy.

That is why we loons feel like we personally know the man. He tells us everything in his "personal" life through his songs. I too, can tell what each song is about and how he feels about certain subjects. Simply amazing to me !!!!!!

I love You Better Wait. It's hard to believe that the song didn't get more popular especially with that great video.

Journey Rock, what "divorce" are you writing about? As Laura says, I Stand Alone wasn't written by
Steve Perry, but he sings it like it has a lot of meaning for HIM. 8)

KDOUBLEU wrote:Anyway is a fantastic song. But then I think every song that Perry has ever lent his voice to is worth listening to. I even like listening to him sing the birthday song he recorded for the radio dj Brian a few years back. The man can bring it. Doesnt matter to me if he can hit a high c or not. Im just ready for something new.

This made me laugh, because I feel the same way about the youtube clip of Steve singing that birthday song. I have listened to it several times thinking how great he sings doo-wop tunes, plus his humor totally cracks me up! It doesn't matter to me what key he sings in either,I love all kinds of different styles of music, so he could sing anything and I would be happy and love it too (yeah.. I'm easy like that.).

I have been listening to the FTLOSM cd quite a bit lately, and I just love it ! There are a lot of great songs on that cd,but I think one of my favorites is "Listen to your heart" I really like the way the song starts out..it definately grabs your attention. I remember one thing that my grandpa used to always tell us grandkids was "never have regrets, always follow what your heart tells you to do". Easier said than done though, that's for sure, fear of rejection/failure is a very powerful thing. I also like "For the love of strange medicine" quite a bit,I like the message it that one. I know my train has been derailed several times over stupid things that shouldn't matter so much (live and learn).

Anyway is a very honest song..I agree. I also really admire people who can express their feelings in such a thoughtful way, and aren't afraid to admit to mistakes they may have made in the past...that song is very courageous and beautiful IMO. I couldn't even imagine having my feelings bared in front of the world in such a way. I also agree that Steve's vocals are very strong in this song and the emotion is off the chart too. There is a specific part shortly after the lyrics haunting me,calling me... that gets me right behind my left ear and sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. Much in the same way "somethin to hide" does.

I agree with you on "I Stand Alone". It soooooo tells the tale of him after everything he went through with the band. He was almost like the guy in the movie. Uncanny to me !!!!!!!

My favorit mid-tempo of his is Summer of Luv....playful, good vocals and an amazing bridge into the last part. I think his high notes on that one are as good as anytime in the past also.

I'm sure David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager were the main writers of the I Stand Alone song (they wrote the entire movie soundtrack -- Quest for Camelot), but SP must have added something because he had writing credit on the song, too.

And, I agree, love the HappyBirthday,Brian surprise song. I've got it downloaded with my SP rare song collection .... makes me giggle everything I hear it  .

+100 That is EXACTLY how I would explain it. For being such a private person, he sure puts it all out there in his music. he said one time that a friend of his told him he wears his heart on his sleeve.

I love that song too. Best part of the WHOLE song for me, is when Steve growls like the guitar.....love that!! (sometimes I even play the song over again, just to hear that one part...yes, I'm strange..I know  ) He does that in another song too, I just can't think of which one at the moment.

Some say that SP's voice wasn't there anymore by this time, which I don't agree with, and that his high natural register was diminished.

Well, if that's true, it sure as hell isn't true of his falsetto. The top of that note is as high as his top false notes on Wheel In The Sky, and even the crazy runs on Homeade Love. Still a huge falsetto range in 1994.

Not really anything anyone hasn't heard, but I hadn't listened to that song in a while(which is GREAT song), and that really caught my attention.

Can't imagine how any SP fans don't like FTLOSM. Rock, pop, soul, R&B, mid-tempo, ballads. To me, it's a really strong album.

Really going to be interesting what kind of new stuff we hopefully hear soon.

I love this cd.
