Nah, I won't take it there, no need. You know what they say..."Build it and they will come".

I love a good laugh, glad you all enjoyed it.

Love you Laura, but this cracked me up!
If he takes this long to release an album... is the 10 minutes it took to write the statement (If he even wrote it himself!) really going to make a difference?
Yup, a big difference. This is what those "10 minutes" could be like.

Studio X. Steve Perry is in the middle of a writing session. Man walks in.
Man: Excuse me Mr. Perry, phone call for you.
SP (annoyed): Dude! I’m trying to write a song here!
Man: Sorry, but they said it’s urgent.
SP: Urgent? URGENT?? *throwing his hands in the air* THIS album is urgent, man!!
(SP turns to the mic and begins humming a catchy chorus)
Man: But…Mr. Perry, they are waiting for you on the line. It’s The Oprah Show.
SP (abruptly stops singing and stares): Who?
Man: Umm…You know….Oprah Winfrey.
SP: What? They want to use Don’t Stop Believin’ when she walks in? Is there any killing going on?
Man (looks baffled): Err…killing?
SP (losing his patience): Oh just forget it. For-get-it!
*stops breathing for a second then yells* FAK! I forgot where the chorus was going!! *takes his head in his hands and sobs softly*
Man: You taking the phone call, Mr. Perry?
SP (motionless): What do they want?
Man: A statement about Journey.
SP (sobbing louder): And for THAT you made me lose 10 minutes AND a song???
Man: Sorry... but they said it was urgent.
SP: Okay... (tears choking some of his words, parts of them muffled ): Tell them this…Though …you’d sell your mommas to have me back, we've gone our separate ways… I will appreciate it if all of you will be forever grateful for what I did for you…You wouldn’t be on Oprah if not for our time together…I sang the music we created...remember?…Well, so does Oprah and our faithful fans. I wish I would have continued this new song but you had to be on Oprah, didn’t you?… I still provide more success to all of you…don’t I? *wiping his tears, he looks at the man* Get it?
Man(puzzled): Umm...I think so. I will deliver the statement.
SP: Yes, do it. And I wanna know if there will be some killing going on...mmkay?
Man walks out and hears behind him "I forgot the frikkin' song!!!"![]()
Laura, that's a work of art....![]()

It sounds like a canned standard response from Perry to these types of inquiries. As a matter of fact, it seems to me I've heard this response, verbatim, on at least one other occasion. It's like the "little black dress" of responses to requests for statements about Journey. It goes with everything. Just cut, paste, and send.

Yeah, regarding Journey with Augeri something very similar. Why aren't people carrying on that Neal is a great person for saying Perry has an open invitation anytime and how sweet that is?![]()

I think this is being glorified a little too much. (not directed to you, SPF, just at the general Oprah ass-kissing....LOL)
It was a nice segment indeed, but she (or, her producers/editors, rather) by no means did an outstanding job with it. (Oh good lord, I'm starting to sound like Sain- I can't even say it.![]()
)
But that's what Oprah does - over-dramatizes everything, over-praises everything, everything is always sunshine and gloriousness and amazement with her. A nice job, maybe, but not outstanding because it was just as obligatory as a journalist spell checking or a photographer putting film in the camera. What else would they or could they have said? Can they leave it out? No, of course not. Can they say bad things? No.
He was mentioned it's mandatory, because nowhere, at anytime, is a description of Journey given without mentioning him, because that can't happen. When it comes to Journey, the past is far bigger than the present and discussing Journey without mentioning Steve Perry is like trying to bake a cake without an oven.

When I watched Oprah doing the Whitney Houston interview, I believed her. I felt she was sincere, a Whitney fan, someone who knew Whitney's story and really did have a connection to her. When I watched the Journey segment, I felt none of that. I doubt she knew much of their back history or that she listens to their music. I found the scenes of her trying to sing along in the audience embarrassing. Especially the wide-eyed look on her face a couple of times when she was supposedly impressed with something Arnel sang. Not buying it. But that's okay. No way she can be that connected to all her musical guests and her warm & fuzzy theme for the show came across just fine.

SP Fan in Oregon wrote:I agree that Oprah overplayed the Arnel performance part of her show and that it wasn't as sincere as other shows she produces. My point was that I felt Oprah's coverage of Perry was well done and appropriate for the amount of time available for the segment. Given that there was not even a mention of Augeri, I was pleased to see that she did not shorten the Perry part, but gave that part the justice it deserved. In other words, she covered much more than a passing reference. I was pleased with the content as well. What did you think about that part of the segment?

Someone stuffed the scarecrow with red tissue paper instead of the typical straw.

I doubt that she or the people who did the background work for this show even knew Augeri was ever in the band. There is no way they could do a segment on Journey with a "don't stop believin'" theme and not mention Steve Perry and I thought the coverage was respectful. Not sure what was going on with Neal's choice of wardrobe, though.
