Wow, he has done a lot. When I first saw the "When you love a woman" I was crying like a baby...if you can imagine having loved someone (SP, in this case) and not seeing or hearing him for 25 yrs and then seeing and hearing them again...well, that is what it was for me. It actually hurt in my heart...but, it was so beautiful, too *heavy sigh*. (Most excellent job, Mr. Wayne Isham.)

I've heard it....great version for remaining celebate!!!
So true....talk about jolting you right out of the mood. I clicked on one of the youtube videos of this song, performed by the new Journey by accident. Not pleasant to my ears,it's like when you order an ice cold Coke, and they bring you an RC Cola instead (believe me I can tell the difference in a big way!).
I have never tried to take away anything from AP, but I have always said...if my clothes
are still on at the end of this song it ain't the real thang!!!

I try to get her interested, but she's probably just bored with hearing me play 80's tunes for the last 15 years! She likes country and a lot of newer rock... WTF is WRONG with her?

Escape81 wrote:One of my favorite Journey ballads. I'm a huge fan of Trial By Fire and this song demonstrates that Steve doesn't need to have his old range and power to be an effective singer... the strength of this vocal performance is its simplicity... sure, Steve probably couldn't sing the old catalogue anything like he used to, but TBF remains a fantastic album just the same.

hahah, now the playing field is even...we get AP inserted or worked into any thread as SP is...no harm no foul...its all good, thats what the forum is all about.
Time to put all the kids back in the sandbox again!!!
Oh, yeah, good idea. Then with the Perry photos, we can add Neal photos and Jon photos and Arnel photos and Deen photos and even Ross photossince it would be a Journey forum.

Author2 wrote:I like Perry's take on the song such emotion and passion - can understand why nominated for a grammy. Can't really get into Arnel's theatrical sound - sounds like Shakesphere reciting poetry. As evident by all the great soulful/passionate singers without that theatrical sound, you can still be manly, without recitals. There was a teleprompter discussion about the DVD, but I believe it was said that he moves around too much to really be using it so maybe having mimicked others for so long and basically committed others songs to memory rather than heart gives him that recital tone?

I think the difference is Steve Perry put his soul into these songs He helped write them all. Arnel is just the singer of these songs now, he has no emotional connection with them. When he starts helping the band write new material then maybe he will sound more soulful/passionate.Jana wrote:Author2 wrote:I like Perry's take on the song such emotion and passion - can understand why nominated for a grammy. Steve Perry is the man, definitely, and perfection on WYLAW on TBF. But you ended your post with a question mark, so I will respond. You don't hear heart in Arnel's delivery. I absolutely do. He sings with great emotion and soulfulness to me in his ballads and am always moved. I don't hear a theatrical sound in Arnel's rendition of WYLAW. Everyone reacts to a singer differently or a particular song performed. It's just a matter of preference, for the most part, when being moved by a singer, subjective.
