Mr. Roboto by Styx is one of those songs that is always popping up. There was even a reference to at last year's Academy Awards. Now, how many copies did Dennis DeYoung's last record sell? Not enough to even be noticed. Mr. Roboto's enduring status as a pop culture icon didn't help one bit.
I understand that Perry is considered a level above Dennis but even if he had a new album come out and sell 10X what DeYoung did , it still wouldn't be even halfway to gold. If Perry wants to release an album as a thank you of sorts for his fans, we MIGHT see something eventually. If it's about the money, then you are never going to hear from Perry again. Perry got more pub from DSB's popularity than Journey did and they are the one's touring. What did Perry do with that opportunity? Nothing.
As much as Schon may despise Perry, I'm sure he would have loved for Steve to do something about now, anything because if Perry's name is out there, then so is Journey's and vice versa. Every google trend chart shows this. Just some potentially missed opportunities at the moment.

If SP puts out a new album, the pressure on him will be unbelievable and I can understand why he would hesitate until he felt it was as perfect as he could make it. No matter how amazing it may be, there is something to prove after all of this time and what if the fans don't like it, what if it doesn't sell and ends up in the discount bins, etc.? Then there is the pressure to tour and promote the album and the expectations of the public who still hear his voice on the radio from when it was in its greatest form and will compare it, not to mention the end of his private life and more Internet activity documenting his every movement.

I have a feeling it will blow us away and whether it sells in the thousands or millions isn't important - I think it is safe to say that it will mean a lot to some very grateful fans who love Steve's voice and just want to hear him sing again!

Follow his every move? His groupies that are stalkerish are up there in age. How many more of those will be following his every move? Most have kids and a life and don't have time. He's sixty not 48 releasing a new CD. He is a perfectionist, but I believe to his detriment. With Journey they poppped out great CDs and the writing flowed amongst those guys together, and, yet, with FTLOSM, he had a gazillion writers on it with him and laboured over it, and it was mediocre, save some fantastic songs. I agree he puts pressure on himself, but he's the one that stated he's working on a CD. So put it out, for God's sake.

Steve Perry's new album will look something like this, behold... maybe a few more unreleased tracks from the early - mid 90's as well, maybe.

*facepalm*

I'm gonna start a blog and and totally fabricate the album cover and track list and see how long it takes the link to land here.

I'm not saying it's true or not, to be clear (cuz how would I know)... but people will jump on ANY mention of this. It's astounding. If the source were Rolling Stone or something (and not a random blogger), I'd be a little more apt to look into it.

Now fess up - how many of you have emailed this person?

Is this album supposed to be coming out of Dave Grohl’s 606 Studio? The same studio which is supposed to be the place where the other Steve Perry (From Cherry Poppin' Daddies) is working on an album? Are the two Steves doing a duet or something?

I'm guessing that his new CD has recordings dated as far back as 2000 or maybe even beyond. From what i've read, he has been recording things off and on for some years now. You may very well notice slight changes in tone or sound because of this.
It would make since because he's been absent for so long. He can pick and choose what songs he thinks would be his best bet or a better seller than lets say some other songs he has to choose from. This would protect his legacy somewhat and at the same time have songs that could make some noise. This new CD was not a like Adam Lambert's project where all the songs were recorded in one or a two week period like in Journey's heyday. This project probably has more to do with not being a hack more than anything.

I don't think necessarily more groupies will be stalkerish, but the ones who are will probably up their activity. If SP tours and does promotions, they'll have more access and more reason to post. I agree that the perfectionism may be to his detriment if it keeps him from releasing material and he ends up "overworking" it. If he has an album producer he can trust to take on that aspect of the process, maybe we'll hear something sooner - I want him to just release it already too!

One other thing that has come to my attention and this may be just guessing again. All these reports from artists that have stated over the last 4 or 5 years that have made somewhat of a noise reguarding Perry recording a new CD have kinda kept to themselves or not leaked really anything.
To release a CD and not promote it makes no sense at all from anyone. And i don't care if your name is Adam Lambert or Michael Jackson, it has to be done in some form or fashion. You would hear it from alot of different sources if you did not promote it. Ask yourself if a man like Steve Perry doesn't care about hype or getting this info out because your kidding yourself, HE WOULD.
As great a musical God (And there is no question he was), he's not using the best judgement and by the way it's almost Feb. I hope i'm wrong but as my other post stated, recording these songs the last 10 years could fool alot of people and the evidence in this would probably be not touring. It seems to me that he may very well just decide to do nothing and keep what voice control he has left in the shower or car. But if i'm right and he has recorded material over a span of 10 years or so and has decided to do nothing, i'd be the first in line to tell him to his face that he has made an (Infinity) mistake. I'm sure i wouldn't be alone either. Of course his comeback to my face-to-face statement would be "You know how much it costs", ''you wanna fork over the cash to put this CD out for me". Off course, my comeback to Mr. Perry would be, "Well, Mr. Perry, your the best EVER but I gotta get out of here and catch a plane for the Colts AFC championship game".

Singing 2 songs on American Idol makes your whole post moot. That's all he would need. And making the appearance a "rumored" one would generate enough buzz to get Cheech and Chong high for the next 100 years.

He should release it in February... then it'd be right on time for my birthday. :P But the way things are looking, *if* he's releasing anything-- and emphasis on "If" because I am not getting my hopes up over this-- it's not gonna be until at least the middle of the year. Since, as people have already mentioned, there hasn't been a bit of promotion for it yet. Bleh. I already mentioned that anxiety might play a large factor in his decision to withhold all that stuff, but seriously... dude. As long as you don't sound like fuckin' Tom Waits, I don't think anything bad is gonna happen here! >:/
