Just like they did for the original, where they picked an occasion where everybody was in town.

These singers should just contribute to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army instead of looking for face time. The 1st time was real but this seems contrived.

We are the world

I'd like to see all the first performers gather again but I seriously don't think it would happen. There was a sort of special feeling for the first recording that I don't think could be matched in a repeat.
We can't change what was.

I so agree. Why can't they contact all the original singers and say hey let's do it again but this time for Haiti. I am sure they would come together again for a cause like this. They would have to find replacements for Ray Charles and Michael Jackson but hey look up two big names that would fill in nicely. This is going such a big bummer if they get all new people to do the remake of this.

From what I have read, they plan to re-use the original part Michael sang in the son the first time. I just don't see these "today" artists pulling it off with the same magnitude and talent as the originals. I say bring back the original artists, especially Steve Perry- as I believe he was the best singer in the bunch (just mho) and use the original recordings of those that passed away just as they plan to do with Michael's part. Otherwise, don't fix something that isn't broken. Make a new one. New song-new artists.
Steve Perry is a GOD!

We Are The World Remake?

Postby Kelley » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:35 am

I follow Nicole Richie, Lionel's daughter on Twitter and she said that she was in the studio with her father helping with the remake. If they are doing it in NY, and Steve is in NY then maybe they called him at the last minute and he accepted? Who knows?

How can you replace the "bridge people"?  Lionel Richie this morning said that they were doing it different this time it wouldn't be like a circle of people going up the mic to sing their part because this time they have to record the singers to the way they are use to being recorded." WTH! :x

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

WINNER WINNER!

It'll take them 5 minutes to record it. Another 3 months to make sure everyone's voices are autotuned.

I don't want to take anything away from these singers who are sharing their talents to record this song. I may not agree that it was a wise decision to re-record but I think it is a good thing. Anytime anyone takes a moment to generate revenue for people who are in need of life's basic ingredients than I really can't complain. And what is so bad about wanting to be a part of something which may be life changing for all these Haitian people?

You make very good points.

Perhaps it is because the first one meant so much to us (and no, not just because SP was there)

I hope the remake has every success and brings much needed relief to the people of Haiti.

seems that MJ's part from the original was left in the new version, they place the video of him singing next to his sister Janet who must have his solo this time....so a duet? Interesting
