You'all are losing your grip with Jonathan Cain leading Perry to the drinking fountain. Being a lead singer in a band that ruled the earth is enough to make you QUIT ALL TOGETHER. A voice is a fragile thing and only the select few can handle having a voice with angels exploding out with every Falsetto used and every vabrato incorparated PERIOD. Perry cared less about song writing, he left that up to band members that pretended like they sang vords but were spitting instead. Oh, they used their fingers to push a keyboard or pinch a string.

Because all you guys rag on Perry not adding to song writing back in the day and the way i see it is not every1 can be LaBron James. Not everyone can handle every position or duty and Perry did enough already for christ sake. And i'm sure if Perry pushed his way into that idea there would have been alot more bullshit coming from Journeyland. He added some song writting and that was enough.

I don't think anyone is discounting Perry's talent as a vocalist. The man was, and still is, peerless as a vocalist. In addition to his duties as lead vocalist with Journey, he also either wrote or co-wrote most of the music. I believe the issue is that Perry's weakness as a songwriter is/has been exposed and layed bare in the absence of Jonathan Cain.

Jon is a nice guy. I truly think both Steve and Jon are great writers and performers in their own right. And both are great guys from what I hear. I have had the pleasure of meeting Jon and he was sweet, kind, and polite. He even gave me a hug. I have not met Steve but hear the same about him. I am sure it is true. The band split up, but why does that mean we need to tear one or the other down?

I am sorry journey361. As much as I love Steve's voice, I have to say Jon is tremendously talented, and one of the most prolific song writers and keyboardist of our time..........Neal one of the best guitar players. Why dis any of them? Seems childish.

Maybe they tired of each other, maybe they said things they didn't mean, maybe they are human and need to be treated as such. I try to appreciate the talents of all the members. Their work was astounding. And I have met Jon and Neal, and liked both men very much. Time to let go of old grudges that don't mean anything now.

artist4perry, i'm just trashing on Cain because certain individuals in here were trashing on my boy Perry for being a low-level song writer in the FTLOSM project. And the FACT that it takes a special talent to have a voice hold up in front of 80,000 people like Perry did.
And i know alittle about JOURNEY back in the day as my mother sang professionally. I might add Cain's wife heard the Perry Infinity album soon after it hoit the stores and called Jon and said theres this band named Journey and you gotta hear this singer on this album. Cain listened and said at the time it was a hoax and there was no way he could pull it off live untill 4 months later when the baby's were on the same ticket with Journey. Since that day, Cain has always sided with Neil and then there's the Rollie exit, Herbert's dumbass side and Vallory who seemed to jump on the Steve (You don't own us) crap.

Jon is a nice guy. And yeah I watched the ROR video. Jon talked about that in it, but meant that he was amazed at Steve's abilities........not putting him down. I let things go. I am so sick of the stupid Cain sucks, Steve sucks, crap. Guess what........they are both great musicians. And just because someone says something stupid does not mean you need to say something equally catty.

Steve has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Jon, one of the most lovely song lyrics, and his piano playing soothes my soal, and Neal a great musician. When was the last time you even talked to Jon personally? How do you know how any of them feel today? Wouldn't it be funny if none of them bear ill will to each other, yet some of the fans keep grudges forever. :?

I don't know or have talked to any of them and really when you get down to it, the way Perry's makeup is you never know, maybe all that stuff effected Steve in a way nobody has ever weighed in on. To the point maybe he just quit music for that unstable relantionship. If you watched the words and body language from Journey members, it's possible they did side away from Perry. The only one who seemed to have a neitherside reaction seemed to be MR. SMITH.

Maybe a loss of a mom, a girlfriend, and exhaustion playing some in the equasion too? Who knows........only the people involved usually. And I just feel it is best to let them hash it out. Please understand I am not bearing you any ill will either. I just think Monday night quarterbacking about people we don't know well enough to say how they really feel is kind of sad. Put yourself in their shoes. People making you out to be a jerk.............people who don't know you............people who assume your oppinions and take things in old interviews and coming to conclusions without asking you. Man I would never want their jobs. A catch 22 that never ends.

I love Steve Perry as a artists but i to this day want to know what he meant by saying "I never felt like i was a part of the band". So, he makes this statement on an interview so the WORLD can see. What do you make of it and how could that be?

It means whatever it means. And the interview is old..........again who knows? I say let it go. Steve wished the band good luck recently. The band has offered an open invite to him. It is their affair. Not mine. So I will pass on the speculation. I wish Steve, Jon, Neal, Valory, Smitty, Neal, JSS, SA, Rollie, and Arnel a great life, great happiness, great successes, and no pretending on my part to read their minds, and assume their feelings.

I am looking forward to good music from Steve and Journey. Best wishes guys. Best of life and love to you all.

Journey 361 really these arguements have been beaten to death...........boring really.

All the posters that think SP is(was) just a medicore songwriter must have short memories. What about these songs he wrote all by himself: L-T-S/S&S/WLAL/TheParty'sOver...and these 2 he brought to Journey (with the help of Neal's musical acumen)--Lights/Patiently. True, some may think these songs sound dated now...nevertheless, they made a huge impact then and contributed to what we now know and love as the "Journey sound"--well, maybe not WLAL (lol). HH himself (in one of those vitriol interviews) said he thought S&S was a great song.

While it would be hard to argue that Jon's addition to the band did not bring out the best in SP (both vocally and songwriting-wise), the same is true in reverse. WYLAW is a masterpiece....AATY is cheesy. Many have said JC's love ballads (post-SP) have turned smaltzy and dripping with whatever...not that OA wasn't (lol). Anyway, I think Journey could use some of SP's strong sense of melody in most of these current Journey songs.

The bonus live version on the remastered FTLOSM is a more interesting track than the studio.

I wish he would put out that whole show.
