Will 2013 Be The Year We Hear New Music from Steve Perry

I listed carefully to TBF the other day and it's completely obvious his voice was dramatically changed forever. I really can't see his voice sounding that much worse today, so technically I'd think he could come very close to singing most of those tunes and a few of the dirty dozen, perhaps a half (or full step down). Doing a little vocal riff instead of the highs once in a while, etc, etc. The thing is, this would be FINE for us, but probably not for Steve, after all it's obvious he has a well deserved huge ego.

We might hear something from the studio, where he can re-take a zillion times to make it perfect to "his" ears, but I think it's fair to say we'll never see Mr. Perry sing live again. I think he might...might...have come out of retirement if Steve A or even JSS was still the front man, but Arnel probably put a bit too much pressure on Steve to sound like the old Steve again and that's something he probably doesn't want to compete with.

You must not be a musician..

I know for me, the 1st time I got to record in a studio.. was pretty much like "going to musical heaven"... and it's never been anything but pure joy.

Playing to a crowd is great.. but the bigger you get the more bullshit you have to deal with for that same set time.. Recording on the other hand... is INSANELY fun.. no fan or touring bullshit.. just making music, the whole reason people become musicians in the 1st place... to create music.

I thought I could be, but when my parents divorced when I was 14, I moved away from playing Sax, Guitar and Clarinet, which I learned all over 2 years. It really fucked away all my musician ambitians.

Did you really end that post with "musician ambitions"?! There's no way in Hell you can tell me that was just a coincidence!
Seriously though Steve, musicians, more-so than any other breed of artists, have an innate need to express their "feelings" (in this case their music) like a pressure cooker needs to expel steam. If they don't, they/we feel like we're going to explode. You say that your aspirations of being a musician were killed when your parents got divorced. The gift of music that lives inside a musician can't be quashed or extinguished. If you had "it" back then, you've still got it inside you now and the beautiful thing about it is, it will always be there waiting for you to pick up where you left off.

My mother started me in piano lessons 2 weeks prior to my 5th birthday. As I got older and better at the piano, she would place me with progressively better teachers. By the time I was 11 her goal; of turning me into some kind of virtuoso had taken away all the fun and everything I loved about playing it. Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Handel, Bach, drills, exercises, theory, 2 hours practicing everyday.... how 'bout just sitting down and playing just to play and create music. I began to hate her for it and even started to hate music and the piano altogether. When I turned 12 I quit. I refused to play. I refused to do anything associated with it. Some months went by and I was losing my mind not playing but there was no way I was going to return to the regiment she had established. It was going to be on my terms - the way I wanted to play.
When I was 14, I was hanging out in the school's choir/band room just playing around on a piano all by myself - or so I thought. I started to play Come Sail Away and within a minute of starting to play it, I was surrounded by girls who could hear me playing and "like oh ma God! I love that song!" It was at that moment that everything I had endured previously was worth it.  Don't get me wrong, I was and am a musician first and possessing the ability to play the piano/keyboards and do it well is something I never take for granted. However, when you're 14 and that ability can be manipulated and used to attract teenaged girls who are just melting as you play their current favorite song - especially if it's a ballad - especially if that ballad happens to be Open arms or Styx's Babe or REO's Keep On Lovin' You and you can play it exactly like Jon. Denis or Kevin..... you do the math!!

That didn't end in high school either. I milked that one for years. In fact, I always said when the day comes that I meet Jon Cain, I will have to thank him for all the times I got lucky as a result of playing a song he wrote - and I did! True story!! His exact words were, "Uhh.... you're welcome?" to which we both laughed.

Sorry, but your track record isn't that good. Aren't you the one who said for a fact that he was dating Patty Jenkin's sister? And why are you throwing out that Sept. 15 date? Is that your birthday or something?

I have it on good authority that I have no authority or sources to tell me that Steve Perry is making new music! I can definitely tell you though, that I believe he is, or maybe he isn't.

I did have this dream the other night that I met one of you guys and you had Steve Perry's "new song" and was trying to keep it on the down low, lol! I wound up buying the track and it sounded like Steve Perry from 1996, singing to big band music.

Which reminded me, I need to stop eating before I go to bed! :D

I have this nightmare that I hacked Steve Perry`s computer finding out that he is singing Klezmer songs.
Bathing in sweat I wake up with Neal Schon lying next to me in bed telling him about this dream and he says
"yeah Steve has a nose for that kind of music".
