Oh Sherrie was released in 1984 ....when Perry was 34 years old.

No Erasin, just released... ... and Perry is now 69 years old....

anyone thinking a No Erasin singing 69 year old Perry is going to sound like a Oh Sherrie singing 34 year old Perry is plain looony.

lol! How true. He can still bring musical nuances, even at 69 years old. Just gotta change our expectations of hearing the "Journey voice" and appreciate what he brings in the here and now. How about just being happy that Steve is happy to give us something? Much appreciated and I don't intend to be critical of it, but just appreciate the album for what it is. I can't wait for my album I preordered to be available to listen to.

As for some comments in this thread; I'm convinced that some people just thrive on nitpicking and arguing with others.

Well there's plenty of looney when it comes to Perry. Song sounds like a 70 yr old made it ,I didn't find it catchy(not Perry catchy) but again 70, I don't think his voice is shot (the video comes off kinda like a lounge act) ...again 70. I'm not expecting much from the rest of the cd if this is the lead off single, but who knows maybe I will be pleasantly surprised. Personally I think he waited too long to come back but if he proves me wrong it wouldn't be a bad thing .

Damn I feel old
Still remember hearing it live and then in the days before I had MTV waited up late for "Friday Night Videos" at midnight.
Luckily it was the first video played. Remember using pocket change to by the cassette. I was 14. Ugh.
HEard it today on KQ. Hoping there would be a mention of the new CD to no avail.

OMG people....are you delirious? "No Erasin'" is absolutely dreadful. I'm a long-time (1979 to be exact) Journey/Steve Perry fan, and have bought just about everything they (the band and most of the side projects) have put out over the years. But I would have rather SP stayed retired than to embarrass himself (and his fans) with this rubbish. The songwriting is positively atrocious and his voice is completely shot. To compare this horrible single with the likes of Oh Sherrie (it's not spelled Oh Sherry) is utterly ridiculous. I understand that SP fans were dying to hear his voice again, but if this is what he sounds like (to me it sounds like a seal being clubbed) he should have stayed retired.

Side note: Just to make sure I wasn't being overly critical, I forwarded the YouTube link of the No Erasin' video to my wife and a few friends who I know love Journey and SP. EVERYONE responded the same way.....and it wasn't in a positive manner. To quote my wife, "That's so bad. Steve should have stayed retired."

I think those of you who are saying that you like this song were just soooo desperate to hear something (anything) from Perry, that he could have recorded the Pledge of Allegiance and you would say its great.

As you all know I am a dyed in the wool loon and I don’t care who knows it, but I have to say at this point I agree…

Now that I’ve listened to “No Erasin’” and that little sample of “No More Cryin’”, I gotta say I’m just not feeling this so far. I don’t agree with the “shudda stayed retired” non-sense. Steve’s voice sounds great to me. Not Perry circa 1981, which wasn’t my favorite and would be an unreasonable expectation anyway, but still, really good. It just feels like the magic is missing here. I don’t know if it’s Jon or Neal, or some combination of the two, but something is definitely missing. It pains me to say it, but from what has been released so far, this just seems like a continuation of the pissing & moaning dirges from FLOTSM.
Having said that, if there’s a live show? Front row seats, b!tches! Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

I think you nailed it on the head Jubilee. For me it's not the fact that Perry's voice isn't what it was in the 80's, its the song writing. Something is definitely missing. Jon? Neal? The combination of Jon and Neal? I don't know.

For me, I thought Perry's first solo album (Street Talk) was very good, but with the exception of a couple songs I thought his second solo effort (FTLOSM) was pretty bad.

Having said that, as much as I do not like "No Erasin'", I find myself really digging "No More Cryin'".

As for the rest of you who are bashing on me for my previous comments, I apologize if I offended anyone. That wasn't my intent.
I love folks who throw shit, but when it hits the fan and blows back and hits them
square in the face … we are 'bashing' on them.
First off, you say we're all 'delirious', then you tell us all we are all 'embarassed' by
SP'S writing and singing. Then YOU cry we are 'bashing' on you, when you get called
on the carpet because you 'bashed' us first without provocation
. Dude , believe
it or not ... we all don't to have hate it, like you do and on the other hand, we all
don't have to love it either... Just sayin' . .
Love individuals who 'bash' on others, then apologize afterward … like it makes
everything they said legit, but with a caveat.
Tater1977 - I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. As Jubilee mentioned elsewhere in this thread, for me it's not the fact that Perry's vocals aren't what they were 30 years ago (I certainly wouldn't expect them to be), its the songwriting. Perry had a lot of help with the songwriting on Street Talk (which I think is a great album), but I thought the songwriting on his 2nd solo effort FTLOSM wasn't very good. And two weeks ago when I heard the first single off his new album ("No Erasin'") I thought, oh crap, here we go again. BUT.....after listening to the song that was just released today ("No More Cryin'") I find myself hopeful that the rest of the album might actually be decent. I really like everything about "No More Cryin'".....great vibe, decent lyrics, good vocals, etc.
