That's probably because he is great. The doom&gloom-lonely-sad-miserable-tortured soul is only in the minds of all the armchair shrinks around here.

This coming from someone that thought Michael Jackson was normal!Might be time to change your heat tiles. Look, Steve Perry appears to be lonely and, at least at times, pretty darn sad. He does an awful lot of "thinking about it" but can't seem to produce anything. This would lead most of us to believe that there is, at the very least, a lot of internal conflict and/or indecision. For a guy who's got a daughter, grandchildren, his health and enough money to live very comfortably, he seems sad. That's all. I think we all wish him well, though.

LOL that's for sure. I think Steve is living comfortably out from under the spotlight!

And from what he says, maybe I will get a chance to see him perform live.
We'll see.

I thought I was done with this topic. HERE COMES ANOTHER BLITHERING RANT!!
Well, I could give a f**k what Perry does in his personal life, whether he is happy, constipated, doing cartwheels, married, single, got kids or grandkids, chases baseball players around the airport with is laptop...I assumed Perry enjoyed doing what I KNOW he is talented at, singing, writing and producing. Yet for years he gave off nothing by example that he is doing anything creative. To me that is very sad. Okay, no wait there is Sopranos and Glee, so I stand corrected there. Radio shows overseas and in the States talking about DSB over and over only say to me, PERRY’S RICH! They’re not testaments of him as a flourishing artist in the present.
Some of you on this site are artists, not people who hang with them, but true artists. You know what it is like to be creative and to revel in it, whether you make money or not. Being creative fuels you as it does me in whatever capacity. To me, Perry IS sad especially if he may be holding himself back, letting all this time go by without so much as a pet food commercial. I don’t mean to knock what people do for a living or that they may know noted people personally, but I don’t need to hear from Perry's friends or minions or whatever they are that Perry is “doing fine.” Or,“hey, tell my fans Steve Perry is happy, he's great! Tell them I owe most of them money for keeping my name out there!”
Whatever Perry is as a person is his business. What's embarrassing to me is that Perry seems less like a sure-of-himself artist with enviable talent and more like the scared Wizard hiding behind the curtain afraid to face Dorothy, Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow. The Stones have been dead for years, they still perform what's the problem?
If Perry is retired, great, I would not mind knowing so that I don’t harass him with my silly videos begging him to return to music when he does not plan to. If Perry is in fact interested in doing ANYTHING creative I want to hear from a professional and reliable source – PERRY, or maybe his lawyers or agents or managers. Why talk about returning, why not wait until you are ready and just do it? MBPL

Speaking as an artist who has been fortunate enough to rely on his talent to pay the rent for 18+ years, I can say that YES it is quite easy to get burned out and want to pull back, especially if you are extremely gifted and you want to give nothing less than 100% to your fans/customers/clients/patrons (by no means am I tooting my own horn here). Example: if you're the most gifted chef in the world, there comes a time when you say "I just don't want to roll another meatball." Same goes for singers, painters, carpenters, whatever. Possessing a talent does not mean that you must put it to use at all times...even if you have a daughter and grandchildren!

Listen to his voice on the Behind The Music Interviews and then listen again. You gotta be able to see his eyes to know for sure. Is there fire in his eyes?

Listen to him laugh. I'm no voice expert, but he sounds hollow and weak. Regardless, if he wanted to sing and record, and had the fire and confidence to do so, his ability to project "feeling" would be all he needed. That's something that doesn't diminish like range and power. He possessed the God-given ability to pour emotion into songs and deliver a very specific emotional message to the soul of the listener. That connection was very unique and personal. That was his greatest attribute as a singer. Though he did have many others.

I guess I'm saying this to say that I don't look behind the curtain unless that person wants to share a bit of their sunshine or cloudy days. Otherwise it is what it is. Cause you just know whatever is back there that we can't see is important to them. I say, it's okay baby. And I love Michael Jackson's music. Oh yeah, I love to dance.
