That's probably because he is great. The doom&gloom-lonely-sad-miserable-tortured soul is only in the minds of all the armchair shrinks around here.

This coming from someone that thought Michael Jackson was normal! Might be time to change your heat tiles. Look, Steve Perry appears to be lonely and, at least at times, pretty darn sad. He does an awful lot of "thinking about it" but can't seem to produce anything. This would lead most of us to believe that there is, at the very least, a lot of internal conflict and/or indecision. For a guy who's got a daughter, grandchildren, his health and enough money to live very comfortably, he seems sad. That's all. I think we all wish him well, though.

Not hiding, just lack of time. Sometimes the real world steps in and requires immediate attention.
I still follow things here, just not nearly as much as I used to.

Oh well, I digress. Hope everyone here is well.

I thought I was done with this topic. HERE COMES ANOTHER BLITHERING RANT!!

Well, I could give a f**k what Perry does in his personal life, whether he is happy, constipated, doing cartwheels, married, single, got kids or grandkids, chases baseball players around the airport with is laptop...I assumed Perry enjoyed doing what I KNOW he is talented at, singing, writing and producing. Yet for years he gave off nothing by example that he is doing anything creative. To me that is very sad. Okay, no wait there is Sopranos and Glee, so I stand corrected there. Radio shows overseas and in the States talking about DSB over and over only say to me, PERRY’S RICH! They’re not testaments of him as a flourishing artist in the present.

Some of you on this site are artists, not people who hang with them, but true artists. You know what it is like to be creative and to revel in it, whether you make money or not. Being creative fuels you as it does me in whatever capacity. To me, Perry IS sad especially if he may be holding himself back, letting all this time go by without so much as a pet food commercial.
I don’t mean to knock what people do for a living or that they may know noted people personally, but I don’t need to hear from Perry's friends or minions or whatever they are that Perry is “doing fine.” Or,“hey, tell my fans Steve Perry is happy, he's great! Tell them I owe most of them money for keeping my name out there!”

Whatever Perry is as a person is his business. What's embarrassing to me is that Perry seems less like a sure-of-himself artist with enviable talent and more like the scared Wizard hiding behind the curtain afraid to face Dorothy, Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow. The Stones have been dead for years, they still perform what's the problem?

If Perry is retired, great, I would not mind knowing so that I don’t harass him with my silly videos begging him to return to music when he does not plan to. If Perry is in fact interested in doing ANYTHING creative I want to hear from a professional and reliable source – PERRY, or maybe his lawyers or agents or managers. Why talk about returning, why not wait until you are ready and just do it? MBPL

Speaking as an artist who has been fortunate enough to rely on his talent to pay the rent for 18+ years, I can say that YES it is quite easy to get burned out and want to pull back, especially if you are extremely gifted and you want to give nothing less than 100% to your fans/customers/clients/patrons (by no means am I tooting my own horn here). Example: if you're the most gifted chef in the world, there comes a time when you say "I just don't want to roll another meatball." Same goes for singers, painters, carpenters, whatever. Possessing a talent does not mean that you must put it to use at all times...even if you have a daughter and grandchildren!

I think if Perry just came out and when asked, said "I'm really enjoying my retirement. I peddle around with song ideas but those are just for my own amusement. i 'm quite happy where i am at this moment" there wouldn't be so much turmoil amongst his fans. he seems to needle a bit when he talks about demos and things, like he is afraid to commit to saying things one way or the other. He leaves things open to interpretation instead of flat out saying " I'm retired" or "I'm working on putting out an album".

He was described as swarmy in the early days. I can understand why, when I listen to these interviews. He talks a lot without really saying anything. No uncalculated excitement in his voice at all.
Fucking EMO.

OMG 18+ years?! Congrats! And brag all you want, you should always be proud of your gifts.

Well, I kind of disagree here. I will write, knit, sew, sing, until I die. I need those talents especially now, they are my savior. Then again, and no disrespect to you, we are not Perry, a man who has proven himself as an accomplished talented World-known performer with a plethora of fans. Speaking for myself, I think people crave him to sing again 'cause he never gave a formal confirmation that he retired. Some artists say they retired and come back, not go on radio shows and talk about wanting to "maybe" do this and that. Personally I think Perry loved singing and still wants to, that is why I ranted on about his artistry running through his veins. I truly don't believe he wants to stop performing, but I am also the type that says "shit or get off the pot!" Don't tell me you're shitting, just so it! MBPL

I'll say this...his voice sounded really "harsh" on the interview. I really think he's got nothing left. No range. No power. All "rasp" with minimal range. Not much to work with, really when compared to his previous work with Journey.

:(

Just speculating based on what I could hear from his speaking voice.

Just sayin...

Listen to him laugh. I'm no voice expert, but he sounds hollow and weak. Regardless, if he wanted to sing and record, and had the fire and confidence to do so, his ability to project "feeling" would be all he needed. That's something that doesn't diminish like range and power. He possessed the God-given ability to pour emotion into songs and deliver a very specific emotional message to the soul of the listener. That connection was very unique and personal. That was his greatest attribute as a singer. Though he did have many others.

You guys may be onto something, but you're more likely reaching a bit. Remember, he was on an overseas phone connection that was apparently having connection problems. I don't think his voice would just go and never come back in such a manner that you could even tell just speaking to him. Hell, SA's seems to be doing alright these days and by all accounts he could barely even speak for a while.

It just seems to me that Perry would love to record and tour but the fact that he has never missed a note or two leading up to now, may happen or now. Would that be a personal downfall for a legendary singer to have happen, probably for most singers to a certain extent. But for Perry, it may be something he could not live with.

I don't know how we can all listen to the same interview and come off with such different takes. He sounded content and happy to me. As for not using his talents......how do we know what he does with them? He could sing to his cat every night for all we know, and write every day. Because he has not done it for us for all these years does not mean he does not create.

For example; and artist named Peter Max was big in the 60's he became famous and his art was on everything from watches to clothes, to houshold items. He felt he had become too comercial and dropped out of the art scene. Now he has come back, a great deal of his work is for charities.........but mostly he is now doing what he wants to do, and not what he is expected to do.

I create all the time. Even when I don't have the time due to work, my mind is creating, developing, and working. I am sure he is too.

His laugh is the same spastic laugh it always was, and I find it even funnier that you analyze it for singing abilities.   He has always had that high pitched laugh. It is hardy and contagious.

Oh, and Lora............you evil minion you............I am laughing my butt off over that one.................
