I thought it smacked too much of a girl who used Steve's name for a scam in the 80's. She was told to stop by Steve's lawyers it got so bad. Charging money and not producing anything. This girls first name was Kathy.

So when I found out the Perryville owners name I became uncomfortable. Not that they are the same people, nor do I know of any real problems there, since I never became a member, but beware folks collecting money for this or that. I am sure it is not authorized by Steve, good chance it is a scam.

I again am not trying to say the Perryville site is guilty of anything at all. Just saying be careful what you sign up for. :D

I trust Lora over any fly by night Wanna be Site Moderator anyday.

Seriously, Lora is true blue, anyone saying something mean about her, I don't and won't trust.

True you never do that to Lora or Cyndy, there both great people and even better friends with Mr P.And will NOT let anyone hurt him.Thank You!

But i really bet that was Kathy .It makes me feel bad because she has a family and never thought about them at all.I have talked to her on the phone before & she can talk a really good game. But i never went back to the site after that. She closed the site on us one day without telling any of us.There was alot of hurt feelings from that. And on top of that she would read everyone's P.M'S DO not get into that at all.Just worng on all counts.I knew one she would get it and it has taken a very long time but it's coming now.She is a Bitch and will always be one.

Hmmm hopefully someone saved the pictures she posted on the site of the checks she claimed to have sent to the Make A Wish Foundation. OMFG one of the check was for $2,300.....

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so sad and it never made it to the foundation sad.I wish she had gotten on her scoter and went into the sunset. But i guess she just could not do that years ago.She is up to her sorry ass in trouble now.

I can think of at least two other times that Perryville message board shut down. I went to the Perryville site a few times after being invited there by Kathy when I was on another site. I never gave any money there. I've always been kind of leary of sending money for charities to a third person deal...if I want to give money to a charity, I send it directly to the charity.

When I started this thread I had no idea all of this was going on over there. Like I said I was at the site once and I was not impressed with it. To hard to navigate and it was very dated, nothing new was on there that I seen. It's a shame that the money did not get to the kids at MAWF. It takes 6,000.00 to grant a wish. I know because I used to work with them. To collect money in the name of Steve Perry and claim to send it to charity it just low down and dirty. Maybe it's a good thing that it shut down. At least that lady can't rip no one else off. Hopefully, this person who has investigated the fraud will be able to help bring justice on the matter. And it looks like if they were selling Perry shirts for 40.00 and it's been over a year, surly someone should have suspected something was up. Your right SPFIO, you have to beware of scammers, they are everywhere.

Here is something that I have always wondered about....maybe SP fan in Oregon might know or someone else...

To sell merchandise on a celebrity ( say like tour t-shirts and tour books and other stuff like that) do you need permission from the celebrity and don't you need a seller's license to sell on the internet? :?:

I don't mean you any disrespect, Andrew, but DV posted twice in Sept 2007. I believe that was the last time PV shut down.

Personally, I don't believe Madsplash and DV are the same person, but there was another nic that sounded like DV. I can't recollect the name now, though.

I have no idea what the situation is with the closure of PV as I haven't been there since I got the boot a few years ago. But I do know that the owner of the site did make donations in Steve's name to Make-A-Wish in the past. Make-A-Wish would send Steve a note in the mail (in care of me) thanking him for the donation that was made in his name. I remember seeing these notifications a couple of times over the past years, but I don't recall seeing one for the last 2 years. Not sure on that, though.

Probably just shutting down and re-opening under another name, same old. I don't miss the drama from a few years ago at ALL. LOL, yes there is lots of drama here but it's a different kind of drama. Here at least we don't all have to agree. Have to say though, I did meet some stellar people on that site, that am still close friends with to this day. A Cali visit has now become at least a yearly trip for me. :D

Thank you Lora for clearing some of it up for us. As far as the last 2 years, I think that should be checked into and if there was no checks sent to MAWF then I think Mr. P should step in and do something. This is a shame. Thank you once again. Have a great day!

I was talking to my friend that told me about all of this and she said that someone from PV pointed out that when you went to the website and you clicked on a link that said see what we did this year, there was a link to a check that was dated 2007 but the implication was that the donation was made in 2009. Apparently, this was pointed out at their forum and that particular member was banned. Sounds like it must have been going on for a while. It just seems like bad business to me. Which will make it hard for any other sites who may want to raise money for charity. I know there is one that I usually make a donation to every year at Christmas. (for St. Judes Hospital). I hope this doesn't have any effect on these kinds other sites. But of course these other sites do not advertise that they are making donations in celebrity names either.

It's unsettling to think of someone using fraud in Steve's name. We all care about him and hope this doesn't reflect poorly on him in the eye of the masses.

Why'd Lora get the boot?

If I remember correctly it centered around the Perry Walk Of Fame visit. The site's owner and her sidekick insisted that Perry came there specifically to see them because he was aware of Perryville and knew of the event, and Lora insisted it was a last minute thing and that Perry had to be persuaded to go (by Cyndy! if I remmeber correctly).

That's my recollection of the whole thing. Could be wrong, though.

Good to know at least the couple donations I made a few years ago made it to MAW on behalf of Steve. You can ask anybody, there isn't too many people I don't click with on first meet, but K and her sidekick's shinanigan's weren't going to ruin that stellar day. What goes around comes around. Treasured memory for sure no matter what thanks to you and C, and I'm sooooo glad one of the sweetest people I met that day Chrissy, was able to meet SP before she died of cancer so young.

Go to www.literarylawguide.com/cashinginonsom ... ebrity.pdf
for the in depth legal answer to your question.

I can tell you that Perry's lawyer is the very best in the area of the law related to Rights of Publicity Law and Trademark Law
He is a speaker at the ALI-ABA CLE's on this subject every year. A very impressive lawyer!

Short answer to your question if you don't want to read the whole article in the link I provided is YES, you need permission from the celebrity if you
are using the celebrities likeness to make money (i.e. in a commercial way).

The Perry V site that you all are talking about may have been raising money for a legitimate Foundation to honor Perry, for which he would probably
feel honored about, but if the PV site digressed into using his name to commit a fraud, that is something criminal, as well as actionable in the civil courts.
Least we forget that someone perpetrated a fraud or hoax out in Hawaii recently using Perry's name. Poor guy. No wonder he has the best lawyers in the business to help him with this kind of thing. Very sad that anyone would take advantage of his good name or do something to associate his name with something not good. :(

That might be why Lora said she would take a bullet for him. I think we all (that truly care about him) feel a sense of trying to protect Perry from anyone that might do him harm. I came to MR instead of Perryville, because you all seem "normal"    Well, I'm still glad I'm here and not
at PV, even though I found out that you all aren't "normal."
