Shame he cant get a pit more power out of his voice. His voice is really just too small for any material past 81 and barley has enough fuel in the tank for that. Sounds like he is singing falsetto most of the time or something. I give him credit for doing it though.

It's even more amazing in real life.
I saw him live in a NY club a couple years ago and I was amazed to see a replica of the 1981 Steve Perry right in front of me. It was a good show and he's a very gracious guy.

Well I can give you some thoughts on him, and they aren't "highly."

His voice is powerless. Very thin, thinner than Castronovo. Dude could not, I repeat could not do a Journey concert, no fucking way. Hell, He would struggle mightily for one show. Look like the Man all you want, with the exception of the Nutty Clan here in this forum, people don't care- they want the guy to sing correctly, and move them. You loons just want to be able to go home and wring out your size 12 granny panties and call it a good day.

Yeah well the current singer is not doing much for me in the movement department.....at least Hugo has the moves down...but he is not Perry by a longshot!

I seen Hugo last spring in NYC at a Valentine show and the guy was fucking awesome. I have seen Journey many times with Augeri, once with Jss  and once with Arnel. Valentine put on a better show than all of the Journey shows with the exception of Louisville in 1998. I hear everyone bitch about Hugo. If you haven't heard his own stuff and seen him live, then you're full of shit. The dude is fucking awesome and writes some of the best music out there (much better than Journey since 1983).

Apparently you have not been in the political thread, where he says GOOD THINGS about Obama all the time, and you haven't seen his threads about Bruce Springsteen. Did I spell it right this time Deano?

I agree with you and Deano regarding the thiness of his vocals and lack of power. It's what I always notice with him quite a bit. Though I enjoy some of his Journey songs. It's the moves that creep me out. I hate the copying of Perry's moves and distracts me from the music they're performing. Him resembling Perry is cool, but let Perry be Perry re the moves and have your own stage presence while doing the music.

But he is the lead singer of a Journey tribute band. The guys do nothing but replicate a Journey era that we'll never have back. I believe that that's the whole purpose of doing what he does with Evolution. From all the tribute bands out there, Hugo offers the best Perry act. The shows are really great both visually and sound-wise.

+1,000 I have two of his albums and they are awesome. Having said that though, his voice is much thinner than Perry.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

You must use some new definition of 'awesome' that I'm not aware of....cuz he sounds HORRIBLE here.

I LIKE Hugo...I bought the Open Skyze album back when it first came out. I knew about him before this forum even existed. So, don't lecture me on him

His vocals in this clip sound gavely, with no range. The only "Perry" he resembles is the Perry on the Bill Graham Tribute. This was hard to even listen to.
