Come again, Steve?

There is no business anymore. At least not the type that makes you put a noose around your neck like it used to. You can write, record and release from your own site with no strings attached. As much as his fans like to make excuses for him, he really doesn't have a viable excuse for putting out 2 albums in the last 23 years, asuming he can sing at the level that he likes his bullhorns (uncle Joe, team Fan Asylum, etc) to purport.

I never thought that it was the business that he hated. I think that it was a combination of things, mainly the non-stop crazy touring. Ten years on the road at Journey's pace with the in-fighting had to have taken its toll. His singing style is such that it had to be hard on his vocal cords, more so than your average vocalist and he is certainly above average.

I agree St. John, the business is much more in your control now and we all know how Perry likes to be in control and rightly so if it gets results.

We all have ideas on "if he can still sing"as only Perry can at any level. I have the faith that he can and will.
PEACE!

FTLOSM was 16 years ago. Peoples' attitudes and feelings change. Maybe that's what he felt at the time and what drove him to make that record. Maybe he doesn't hold the same drive as whaetver made him feel he wanted to do Strange Medicine, or maybe his priorities about it have shifted and he prefers just working on other peoples' stuff at this point. And maybe it will change again... you can't hold people to shit they said in random interviews decades ago.

I still don't get all the hostility about what he does or doesn't do. Jesus, let it frickin' go guys.

Don't be so hostile! It's a fan message board. I'm guessing that he loves to see us begging, pleading, questioning, etc, etc. You can't tell me that he didn't expect speculation the minute that he first put that rubber band to his pony tail and was waiting for the first picture to be snapped and speculated on.

You do get your panties in such a wad over any discussions about Perry not to mention news or views of the guy. What's your problem?

Relax yourself there, whirly-bird. I was careful to include smilies so as NOT to promote hostile posting. And no, I don't get my panties in a wad over Perry discussions, in fact I rarely even visit this particular area of the board. I just don't get it when people (and I don't mean specifically you, but anyone) gets on the "why isn't he dooooing something!" thing. All I'm saying is just because he said something random a bunch of years ago doesn't mean he hasn't reconfigured his priorities since then, that all.

And to suggest his lack of obvious activity in the music biz is because he loves to see people beg and plead is laughable. I'm sure the man has better things to do than play nonsensical games with fans. Some people seem to take it so personally. It's kinda weird.

Come on! You know that was not implied. I simply meant that he must know that our bitching and moaning through the years is because we are his biggest fans and it only means that it lets him know that we arn't simply giving up on him and forgetting about him. Both you and Lora made a fuss for nothing.

Sorry for being hostile.

At what point did Lora make a fuss? She just commented about your post and how it sounded. And I didn't make a fuss either, I just said I don't get it when people start in on the thing about perry is due back and he knows the fans want this or that.... and all of those same old same olds. That was all I said, not fussing.

Gawd you're comical sometimes.  For the most part it is peeps like you looking for excuses as to why he's put out only 2 albums. Most Perry fans would love to hear more out of him, but don't require excuses as to why not. And I'm pretty sure those "bullhorns" have ears of their own and are just "purporting" their opinion of what they've heard.

I find it hard to believe that the guy can "sing as well as he did in the mid-80's," but is only willing to allow a secret society of bullhorns to listen. Why even tell us? No one gives a fuck if you can sing, if you're not going to perform or release anything! He's either got a lying PR team, he's unable to live with the fact that he can't sing anywhere near like he used to because he negligently boozed and partied most of his voice away or he's just nuts. From all indications, it's the mainly choice in the middle and a bit of the other two.

Damn dude, you are relentless in your hatred for Espee. Give the guy some air. My God, he gave what he wanted and we should all just accept what we got. No need to go Al Qaida on the poor bastard. And one more thing...even if Espee's voice perhaps tailed off a bit towards Trial, dude never and I mean never contemplated going to a tape to cover his voice, like somebody else and his bandmates did. Steve Perry walked away at the top of his game. I congratulate him on that.

You obviously do! You're the one equating that since he hasn't performed he obviously can't sing anymore? I can easily see how he could sound just as good as he did around the ROR era (mid 80s). Obviously not the late 70s early 80s period, but on different material than ROR I could see him still having a similar tone/deliverability etc. as that.....maybe with a little more of a soulful rasp.

It was like this. Steve said, "Why don't you guys fly down here? I've got some demos of songs I've been working on and I will play them for you." So we did. And he did.

After we listened to the demos he said, "Go forth and spread the word, my Secret Society. Make sure you say I sound as fabulous as I did back in the 80s and I will bestow ten bucks upon each of you." So we did. And he did.

I bought a shinny new bullhorn with my ten bucks. I'm not sure what Cyndy did with hers but cupcakes were probably involved.

And there you have it... one of the Great Mysteries SOLVED...

Sometimes I'm inclined to agree with St J re SP being a weird dude as far as his music goes, i.e., the Russ Miller single "I'm Still Here." WTF?

Sorry dude, I don't see it as the conspiracy theory you do, him sharing a couple tracks with friends and them sharing their opinions of it, is more how I see it.

 You've always had a tendency to come out swinging hard when you have the truth/facts on your side and making light of situations when you don't. I'll take this post for what it is ... a white flag.
