Because Perry Said So

Postby cinkidd » Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:34 am

I have resigned myself that there will be no new Steve Perry material until possibly after his death. He so much as said that in his answering of questions that were posted on his birthday at fanasylum.com and if you have any doubt just read this question and answer:

8. I read in your interview with AOR Magazine in the UK that you have 50 songs worth of material written. Can we expect a new CD any time soon? A new CD would make a lot of hearts sing. - Vicki
I do have many demo sketches and many ready for recording....... It's just getting my butt into the studio that's the problem.
I have a love/hate relationship with the recording process..........
I like some of the demos as they are and at the same time I know what they could be so.......It's fish or cut bait time for me.........
I really would love to release some new music cause.......... Time is marching on................
If ya know what I mean................

I have also resigned myself that Steve Perry and Journey will never reunite with this question and answer:

11. If all members could work it out, would you consider a "One-Time Finale" pay-per-view concert with Journey? (like Led Zeppelin performed a few years back) - Greg
I think that ........In the years that we've been apart...... it's become fairly clear that we shouldn't be together.

It makes me sad that one of the most influential people in my life has decided to go to ground, yet at the same time happy for him. Everybody at some point in time retires in one way or another and for Steve he is happy working on some selected projects and enjoying his life. More than likely, he is able to do anything that he wants without financial worry and able to sit back and pick and choose what he does or does not want to do.

It is with bittersweet reluctance that I give up on the hope of ever seeing Steve Perry solo or with Journey perform live again. I will have to settle for my memory of a sixteen year old going to see Journey on the Frontiers tour in Cincinnati. I consider myself pretty luck to have at least seen the magic that was Journey in their heyday and Steve Perry at or near the top of his vocal prowess. I only wish that I got a chance as an adult to see Journey/Steve Perry and really appreciate the magic that they/he had.

Steve I hope you continue to enjoy "retirement" and know that many people still listen too and are inspired by your music and voice.

Well, at least he cleared up THAT one, so anyone who took a nap and said "wake me up when that happens" can finally get out of bed and resume life.

As for the other thing (new music), just because he wrote some demos it didn't mean that he was going to record AND release them.
Although we ALL hope(d), we gotta be realistic too.
IMO, there comes a time in a singer's life when, as creative as he might be, he simply doesn't feel like going through all the harassement that comes with a product release. It's not that Perry doesn't care about his fans. I'm sure he knows what the fans want from him. I just think that if he's "done" then he's done with the music industry itself. ( as I type this I still hope I'm wrong. lol)

Maybe I am just a forever hopeful but I didn't read it as a blanket "I'm done" statement. I think he is still struggling with the desire to vs. the reality of making music. That doesn't mean Never!

Who knows? It won't kill me to continue to hope. So I will continue :)

Then again I am a Saints fan. I bleed Black and Gold. There were many that said the Saints would never be Superbowl Champs and 2010 proved different :) :)

Neal told me there's 40 tracks in the can, (almost the same amount in above quote) but as to whether we will ever hear them, who knows. Russ Miller is the drummer on those songs...Sheesh, how bad are they they they just sit? These were done in 09!

It's pretty much public knowledge at this point, it is mentioned in that q and a about the 50 songs in the can. I think Neal would know more than any of us.

JohnH who is this "Neal" that you are referring too? Neal Schon? If so, how does he know as he and SP are not talking as far as anybody knows, and believe me, if they were talking these boards would be much more active.

Now, let's move on to the subject of how do you know Neal Schon? Do you have any proof, because you will need it here to verify what you are saying.

Lastly Perry has referenced that he has 50 songs, but he did not say that he has ANY of them completed. In all honesty, and with tons of regret, he is retired. Sure he "might" one day head into a studio and cut a track or three, but they will not be released. As I stated in my original post, until Steve Perry has died we won't see any new music from him. After his death, his daughter might release anything that is done or can be completed by a producer willing to finish bits and pieces.

Spot on!. I couldn't agree more with what you said, and what Andrew said. He's been done since Trial By Fire IMO, and this was 1996.

TBF, I love the album, but after listening to Can't Tame The Lion, to me he sounds good, but very very tired, just really tired still, like it must of zapped all his strengh being on the road, his mother, the surgery, the fame, all these things.

He just sound's like a tired guy digging deep in TBF, one last shot at singing at the highest level I think, along with the Journey boys, you have to be 100% because they will leave you for dead otherwise, those guys are hardcore, and my bet is Mr Perry knows what it takes to be out there, he know's it all too well.

IF! if he releases something? it won't be anything we are expecting. People don't like Street Talk (Perry in his prime), or FLOSM... are they really going to like something made 20 years later?.

Yes me too, I love both albums, but! a lot of people do not.

Most common responses are...

1. Raised On Radio? naa it sounds like a solo Perry album, boring...
2. Street Talk, yeah I like maybe 2 songs on there and that's it!.
3. Captured By The Moment is the only good song on there!

And so on....
