It is very clear to me that people should stop obsessing about every word the man says. I'm pretty sure he says what he feels at the time. Do people follow everyone like this and hold them to every statement. It is a bit scary, if you ask me. Especially at our age. Do people actually sit around and think about this?

And this idea that a performer should have to come out and publicly retire is just silly.

I've heard him say a number of times that he wasn't doing anything and that his voice is not what it used to be. Ok, fair enough. People should move on. Then he says he has about 50 songs written and he'd like to do something. Obviously when he made that statement it was what he was thinking. Maybe things have changed, maybe they haven't. Maybe he just doesn't have an answer yet. Have you considered he may not know what the future holds? God forbid he try and make a statement for all to bear witness to.

In any case, I think people ought not spend so much time demanding anyone say anything.

The simple answer is: He probably had every intent on seeing it through, but he probably ran into a stumbling block with his voice, became despondent and walked away from the table. Doesn't mean he doesn't intend on returning to that table. If he gets over that despondent feeling, he might give it another shot.

Look -- Russ Miller confirmed he was working with Perry in the studio back in 2009. That's probably the 50 songs he demoed. Perry seems like the kind of guy who's ruled by his emotions and his voice is probably a big source of frustration for him. I can't imagine what it must be like for someone who's defined by his voice to lose it. Must have a huge impact.

I would suppose he made the statement because that is the statement everybody wants to hear. It's like the parents whose child keeps asking are we there yet and the poor parents keeps giving them the same answer of "not yet" which is no answer until finally the parent says...sit down, be quiet we'll be there when we get there. Within the next few minutes the child asks again for the 10th time and the parent starts saying whatever it is the child wants to hear.

Maybe we didn't hear his answer when he said he had to have hip replacement or maybe we didn't hear Jon when he said that the man was bleeding when he sang or maybe we didn't believe anything he said because we all hoped that he would sang again. He didn't want to destroy all of our hopes when there was none and he had to accept it himself that he would not ever be the singer he had been. Maybe he's finally getting to the place where he can accept his voice won't be the same as it was and perhaps now people can accept it as well. I doubt it; we like to complain and moan.

I don't know sometimes this place seems like a board of complaining children who are never satisfied until they hear the answer they're searching for. I think he wanted to give everyone the answer they wanted like the parent in the car but sooner or later you realize you have to say STFU we're not there and we won't get there until we get there. And then, the child sits down and maybe sheds a tear or two and in another 2 or 3 minutes they're up again with the same question being asked.

Look Perry himself has said in numerous interviews that he is working on material and wanted to put out another album of his own. However he has been saying that for over ten years now. He is purposely leading on his fans and giving them false hope.

I've stated all of this before and even the diehard Wix gave up waiting on the train. As long as there is breath in Perry's lungs he is going to keep saying that he "might" do this and he "might" do that, when what he really means and should be saying is, "Please, for the love of GOD and all that is good, leave me the hell alone!"

Well here's my 2 cents....

My best guess that this answer comes from 2 places.

1. He REALLY wants too. This would eat at any talented person that cannot no longer do what they love. (i.e retiring sports star...etc)

2. He needs to keep up what interest there is in the catatlog to keep it evergreen (industry term meaning to keep an acts' old catalog fresh by re-releasing it every so often). This is the main way he makes any new income. (aside from other rights' deals too.)

He is a very smart guy and knows how the industry works.

If he could do it...he would.

He can't so he needs to find a way to stimulate interest and income from time to time. Plus as much as a recluse as he is...everyone likes attention. Even him......a little.

I understand why he does it.

Having said that...I am like you. I wish he would simply say ..everyone I'm sorry I wish I could sing and perform at the level you and I want. Simply put ....I physically can't do it anymore. It breaks my heart as much as yours. We'll have to remember the time we had together. My voice has degraded over the years and I can't sing the notes the way I used to. Also singing physically hurts me now...so I must retire.

Sincerely
Steve

I'm not putting SP down or taking a shot at him.

Merely giving my opinion..

Steve Perry is the biggest liar on the planet. He thinks he can just say anything and get away with it,
His hip is destroyed he can't walk but yet he travels all over the US. Thought he got away with that lie only problem was there were eyes in the sky that saw his every move, Now he has 50 songs with no voice to sing them, I gave up on him after TBF and realized he was just simply full of crap. Just like Tommy Shaw.

Sorry but you don't write 50 songs and then try to sing them. It don't work that way, You write 1 song and try to sing it,
50 songs was him spouting 1 liners in his tape recorder that's it.

I'm not sure about this...I would think that the only people paying attention to those interviews are older, die hard fans who already own Greatest Hits and all the other older stuff. I would think the people buying GH are doing so after hearing the band live, and not from hearing Perry say he may record again.

I am more inclined to believe that he is saying this stuff because he really wants to and still hopes it is a possibility.
